I had a scan at 6 weeks, was told that everything was fine. Private scan, no problem but I just wanted a bit of reassurance.

Heartbeat was 105bpm - been reading up and apparently it should be faster, from 130bpm?

Is this normal?

If it is normal, I've read that boys have a slower heartbeat - is it possible to predict at this stage?

I'm now 9 weeks and feel dreadful (nausea is horrific), next scan on 28 august. Just a bit worried and curious Blush

At 6 weeks it may not have been able to pick up every heart beat so the result could be a false reading. Its an average BPM not an accurate one. The machine averages it out over however long it was attached and detecting beats for but a human would monitor the heartbeat for say 20 seconds then multiply the number of beats by 3 to get the BPM, or 15 seconds then multiply by 4 so if I counted 38 in 15 seconds this would average 152 but if I misheard and counted 35 in 15 that would be 140. The machine is also more likely to make a mistake in detection that a human.

Apparently using the hb to predict the sex only works in the last few weeks prior to birth.

Thanks both - that's made me feel a lot better! Thanks
