Can a first baby disengage/turn transverse last minute?

Currently 39+5 and I'm convinced, despite v sharp pains down below, that baby has gone from nearly fully engaged (1/5) and disengaged and gone transverse.

Can this happen? Am I just paranoid?

Not sure if it's possible but....is it just because of where you feel him? I'm 39 wks and 2/5 engaged and like you, I feel babys head below (well, occasional sharp twinge 'down there') but he's curled up so sometimes feels like he's transverse as I feel him 'horizontally' rather than 'vertically'. I keep on saying this to my mw but she assures me it's because of his curled up position and she can make out where everything is and nothing to worry about.

Maybe Heather. Thanks for the reply x

I get a bum sticking out on my left side a lot, but he's still head down and was 3/5 last time they checked, I'm sure he's just stretching it out and is still head down. He does it when I slump on the sofa so I think it's me sitting funny and making him do it. It is odd because I feel all movement on either side but he is head down, they are pretty large at this stage though and curled up in weird ways so I'm sure you are fine!
