hi,
i'm hoping to breastfeed DC1 once s/he arrives in a few weeks time. baby will sleep next to me at night so that i can pick him/her up and breastfeed easily.
however i'm wondering if this might get really boring (!) as i've heard that each feed can last up to an hour and there could be up to 4 feeds a night.
what do people do for this time???!!! in the day i'm assuming ill be watching tv or chatting to OH or friends etc. we don't have a tv in the bedroom but could put one in there, or perhaps download stuff onto an ipad.
my attention span is awful at the best of times. i'm sure i'll be cooing over baby as well! but i'm sure there will be some feeds where i'm sat there thinking omg i'm shattered and a bit of diversion might be nice.
any thoughts? x

If you can't feed lying down, I'd recommend a good nursing pillow, I had a widgey one (it's a firm cushion, rather than a soft pillow) and could lie the baby on that for feeds so that I was still hands-free and could read a book. Good for winding as well.

DS would feed for ten/15 mins max, but at least three times a night. I'd sit up and put my head back against bed headrest and doze. DS would fall asleep at boob and I'd put him back in cot.
Can't imagine watching TV or reading in the half light with gritty sleepy eyes :( but everyone's different!

Thanks Lizzie for the tip. :)

Not every baby takes ages to feed, I was fully expecting to be up all night with dc3 (my first two were bottle fed, but cracked breast feeding with dc3). However he surprised me by being super efficient and feeding for 15 mins every 3 hours :). iPad and mumsnet at 3am is good as is dare I say it the daily fail website (always worth a laugh)!!! And breast feeding lying down is amazing :)

If you have a pregnancy pillow thing to sleep with, they are fab for nestling baby into a good position, hold better than pillows!

I got really good at candy crush in the first few weeks!

Whatever you do, don't listen to Radio 4's shipping forecast, which was clearly designed to cure insomnia.
