I felt BHs as a tightening (and later a hardening) over my belly, especially at the top, whereas contractions were much lower down within my pelvis. With both pgs I had what I later realised had been contractions from about your stage, but went on to deliver at 39+3ish and 41w.

If you're feeling OK otherwise, I doubt it's something to worry about, but, as ever, mention it to your midwife at your next an checkup.

I can't say that I recall feeling the early contractions at the sides, more at the back and inside, but every woman's unique! Are the cramps made better or worse by anything, eg walking around?

Walking around made non-labour contractions go away completely, but only made 'real' contractions easier to cope with, and had no effect on BHs. Sorry have to go now - nappy calls, then supper!

BTW, I'm sure it's in his job description

Actually, I remember in my last labour walking around made my contrax subside! Just my experience, but the real diff between B-H & "real" labour, is that in 'real' labour the contrax progress to a point you can't ignore them or find a way to get them to subside to the point that you can almost forget about them... whereas, B-H go away after a while, or are no worse than a bit distracting for a few hours.

Ive been getting what I think are braxton hicks from about 23 weeks, To me they start off low down as a tightening and then the tightening gets harder and moves up. I feel it all at the front, it also makes you want a wee. I can feel the outline of the baby through them as the muscles go so hard. I seem to get them if I lie on my back or bend over.
I asked my midwife would I know the difference and she said a deffinets yes, with contractions they would get more intense where as with braxton hicks they stay the same. I sometimes get them every 10 minutes for a hour or so.

Hope this helps
