It's totally reasonable to sob about this right?! I can't stomach anything other than milk when I have heartburn. Today the acid actually tastes like vomit :(

Have you any bicarbonate of soda?

Vicky5910 · 03/08/2014 22:21

Oh good god what do I do with bicarbonate of soda?
I'm desperate enough to try a rennie. I'll update you guys if I manage to keep it down...
Milk makes it worse?!?!?! My whole life is a lie!

Something that helped me a lot was to drink loads and loads of water. It sort of diluted the acid down. I was then obviously up half the night going to the loo but I was grateful that my innards didn't feel like they were going to burn me up from the inside out!

Just dissolve half a teaspoonful in half a cup of warm water and drink it. It tastes salty, but as it is alkali it will neutralise the acid.

Vicky5910 · 03/08/2014 22:28

That's clever!
I had a Rennie. Hope it works...
I only got heartburn after week 35 last time. Had it from day 1 this time! X

I hope you feel better soon. Heartburn is horrible.

LBNM19 · 03/08/2014 22:40

Mine was so awful I ended up being prescribed omperzole it's amazing not had it once since xx

MuscatBouschet · 03/08/2014 22:43

I made the milk mistake. It feels soothing but actually encourages more acid production.

Drink water and chew rennie. Eat your dinner as early as possible.

Vicky5910 · 03/08/2014 22:47

I had a crunchy rennie rather than the chewy one. It's actually not too terrible, and I do feel a bit better.
I've got a whole pack next to the bed now. Really can't believe milk has been tricking me this whole time...

Pineapple? Isn't that really acidic?!

Bigbottomtwirl · 03/08/2014 23:54

Milk always made mine better in my last pregnancy. Someone told me refresher sweets are really good but I couldn't have any due to GD.

I've not had it much this time round which is really odd but I'm sure it will no doubt be here constantly soon.

Missingcaffeine · 04/08/2014 00:51

Milk has always helped me, but I carry rennie and gaviscon with me everywhere now too - just in case. If you haven't got anything, water might help, as might very bland food. Pineapple is acidic so won't help.
Bending always makes mine worse, and triggers it. Not eating for a long time also seems to trigger it.

Hope you feel better soon.
