What's this effing pain, then?!

I'm 38+6 with DS2 and booked for an ELCS on Monday as he's huge and transverse.

Just as I was coming out of my pre-op appointment today, I started with a stabbing, stitch-like pain down the right side of my bump - it was a struggle to talk/breathe level of pain. In hindsight, I should really have walked back in and asked to see a MW but I was expecting it to subside. It got worse as I got out to the car (DH was driving). I got home and lay down and the pain finally started to subside. Every time I move now, though, it kicks off again, then subsides when I'm still. As it appears to be activity-related, I'm assuming it's not something terribly serious...?

Baby is moving fine, my urine and BP were fine in the pre-op appointment, and I've not had any discharge, bleeding or loss of fluid.

Has anyone else had this? Is it round ligament pain? Is it the baby exacerbating the small fibroid they found at the 20 week scan? I don't want to spend DS1's last weekend as an only child doing nothing!

Prob best to call your midwife or labour ward.

I did - they said to take two paracetamol and call back 1.5 hours later if I'm still having pain. I'm not expecting the paracetamol to work, as it never does for me, and I fully intend to be motionless in my bed watching crap TV at that time, and therefore not having any pain unless I deliberately get up to see if it exacerbates it again.

I was just wondering if anyone had had the same thing and knew what it was.

Have you been monitoring the every time you have the pain just incase it is a contraction. I felt like this with my first child. Sometimes you can contract before the waters brake. Happened to a dear friend of mine.

ElphabaTheGreen · 01/08/2014 20:56

It's a continuous pain when I'm up and about which worsens the more I do. It's nothing like the (induced) contractions I had with DS1 which came and went and felt completely different. His head hasn't - and isn't going to - engage so I'd be very surprised if it was contractions which never started in their own, even over 24 hours after my waters broke, with DS1 for the same reason.

Is it anything like stitch? I get that terribly on the left hand side of my bump and, when it's there, it's there. I rest and rest but as soon as I move it comes back. I don't know what causes it, but it takes ages to stop completely.

I had a stitch like pain today on my right hand side (38 wks) which lasted for about an hour on and off when I was wandering around town - only stopped when I sat down. Went completely when I got home but according to good old google it's most likely round ligament pain. Made sense for me anyway.

Told to come in by labour ward. Booooorrred on monitoring but everything looks fine, except that cartwheeling DS has gone from transverse to breech. Not-so-little sod's probably using anything he can find as monkey bars, causing me pain. Hmm I'm sure it's gymnastic-induced round ligament pain, but I'd have hated myself if it was anything significant.

How are you op?

ElphabaTheGreen · 03/08/2014 00:17

Fine today, thanks Smile No pain today. Ready to see DS1's last day as an only child off in style.
