First pregnancy GP appointment- need to pee?

Morning! I only got a BFP last night. Called gp surgery today for an appointment expecting it to be a few weeks, but they told me to Come in today (I am slightly embarrassed about this like I am someday woman demanding an appointment hours after getting a BFP, lol)

I'm sure it will be a quick hello and leaflet drop but I wondered if they would urine test me again- do I need to save up some pee
To give a sample?

Thanks

I've never had a test done in the surgery. They take your word for it. Congrats Smile

Great thanks. Makes sense!

Didn't test me but then they gave me a midwife appointment first not a GP one.

Roseblossom2 · 01/08/2014 10:16

I rang the docs, told them I had a positive pregnancy test, they booked me in, asked for a urine sample when I got they, double checked my "positive" and then sorted me out handing me over to the midwife centre.

Serenitysutton · 01/08/2014 10:18

Oooo not sure then. Well I took a second test today (2 in the pack so I promised DH is double check!) And it was only urine which had been "built up" for 1 hour and came
Up pregnant straight away, so maybe I'll save my wees for a couple of hours before :)

Mine wouldn't book me in with the midwife at all until they had done their own test. It won't hurt to take a sample, ypu can bin it if not needed but it is easier than being expected to 'perform' whilst there!

Serenitysutton · 01/08/2014 12:01

That's such a good idea- I have a sample
Pot too!

Thanks all- I took a sample but it wasn't needed. He was lovely and gave me a bumper pack of literature. Estimated due date- 10th April 15!

Congratulations! I'm glad you've posted this as I think I might make a GP appointment. My surgery has booked me in for a first contact midwife apt at 8 weeks which I now can't attend so think I'll book in with a GP sooner.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 02/08/2014 07:03

Think it varies surgery to surgery, my first two they said I didn't need to see a gp, just gave me a booking appointment for when I was 8 weeks, I moved area then got pregnant with dc3, a local friend said they ask for you to do a test here. I rang to ask what the next step was and they said they don't do booking appointments with midwife until you have seen a gp, then offered me a gp appointment that morning, I too felt a bit of a fraud as my period was only 2 days late!!!

yorkshirelass82 · 02/08/2014 11:56

Mother I think my surgery book you a first contact apt with the midwife, my only worry is that they only take apts one morning a week and as I can't make it at 7 or 8 weeks I will be 9 weeks so might as well change it to a booking apt and have a 1st contact with my GP.
Serenity did your apt last long?

yorkshirelass82 · 02/08/2014 11:57

Mother forgot to ask have your booking apts always been around 8 weeks?

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 03/08/2014 09:43

Yeah first two were that was in the south west, now in Cambridgeshire they told me they don't do them til 9 weeks but then booked me for 7+6! I don't think it will matter if you can't do it at 7 or8 weeks, most places only do one day a week Grin

Serenitysutton · 03/08/2014 22:18

Hi no only 10 mins. They did tell me I had to see a GP though. They got me into the system and gave me loads of literature and weighed me and took my blood pressure.

Ironically I only joined the surgery 6 weeks ago and they weighed me at booking in- he got me on the scales twice as he thought I had put on 10lbs since the first weight they had, lol. I haven't so the scales must've been wrong.

Like Mother I was only 2 days late and felt a bit daft but they were the ones who gave me a same day appointment and seemed fine about it. He said congratulations and asked how long we'd been trying which was a nice way to handle the "is this good news for you?" Awkwardness. I liked him.

I told my dr at an appointment that I already had booked and she bypassed the reception and booked me straight in with the midwife, no one ever tested my urine, I was a bit scared I'd get to the 12 week scan and find I'd imagined the BFP!

Not sure this time round though as it's a different surgery (and I'm pretty sure they hate me and there's a nurse who's convinced I'm an addict >.>) Planning on phoning in the morning.
