Storage of stem cells

Does anyone know anything about the storage (freezing?) of stem cells (I assume from the cord or placenta) for medical treatment of the baby if necessary?

They're doing it fairly routinely here in Scotland, I think. There's quite a good news article on it here , but I don't know if that's the kind of thing you were looking for?
