Horrible anxiety before 12 week scan

I have my dating scan in 3 days , I haven't been able to sleep for over a week,
All that's going through my head is the million of things that could be wrong
I have no idea how far gone I am could be anywhere between 8 and 13 weeks , my sickness stopped last week and instead of being glad I'm just even more anxious

Has anyone else experienced this anxiety before scans?

Please try not to worry. I think most people are anxious before the twelve week scan and expect the worst. Please remember that people have healthy babies every day.

I was convinced I was going to find I had a missed miscarriage but I am currently gazing at my gorgeous three week old DS

I worry terribly before scans too. (Currently can't sleep in advance of 20 week scan next week).

This is baby three - you would think I would worry less by now. Here are my coping tips in case they help....

Try to stay busy. Worrying wont change the outcome. As at today, tell yourself you are pregnant and all is well, and that is the best you can possibly have right now. Statistics are on your side and there is every chance you will see your beautiful healthy baby.

I have, sadly, had an early miscarriage and it was devastating finding out at a scan, but I coped.

I worry myself sick before scans. The 12 week scan is always the worst for me in terms of nerves. I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine, I had a virtually symptomless first trimester this time and worried there would be no baby!

My sickness suddenly stopped at 10 weeks with my first and I was so worried I ended up having an early scan because of it, I think it's defiantly normal to feel worried, I did with this pregnancy to untill he started moving my mind hasn't really been at rest, even now I'm worried when he hasn't for a few hours. I'm sure everything is fine. Xx

I used to cry and shake going into scans due to medical history. They will have seen it all before. It's quite normal because the stakes are high.

The sickness does stop weeks 10-14 or so for many women (so even not knowing you're in the ballpark there which sounds good).

If you haven't had serious pain or bleeding, then well over 90%, everything is OK. :)

I was so scared before my 12 week scan I couldn't sleep for ages and on the morning I was crying and almost having a panic attack. I felt better when I got in the hospital and as soon as I saw my baby with a heartbeat it was a massive relief. I was 11 weeks, so they booked me back in at 13+1 for the NT tests. Between my first and second scan I promised myself I wouldn't google anything and I also deleted my apps with chat sections on. I found the babycentre one to be especially depressing. That had me convinced most people had mmc, which is ridiculously inaccurate.

Anyways I was so much more relaxed leading up to my second scan and actually really enjoyed the whole thing. For the vast majority of people the statistics are massively in your favour. As hard as it is, try and relax and look forward to your scan. I wish I had of done and hadn't spent so long getting so stressed out for nothing! Hopefully I can keep the same mentality for my 20 week scan :)

I too was really worried. Didn't help that people kept asking if I was excited and looking forward to it and trying to explain my fears to my mum. As it was I'm not quite 10 weeks so need to go back but it was such a relief to see a really clear heartbeat and lots of wriggling. I must've looked nervous as the scanner pointed out the heartbeat and said "now you can stop worrying, you haven't imagined it!" This was one of the things I'd worried about. Didn't help I was nearly late as had to get off bus to be sick :(

Can relate, I am worried too, want to have scan soon as poss as is my second pregnancy (I miscarried last time at 7 weeks and found at my early scan, due to starting to bleed). However, all I can do is relax as can't change what will be. Take comfort from fact I did get through it and now happier & healthier (changed jobs end of Feb to reduce commute) and that 3 out 4 first pregnancy don't miscarry, so odds are in your favour. FX for you!

I was exactly the same - even though I had an 8 week reassurance scan, I was shaking and practically in tears before I went in!!!
Everything was fine with me, and I am sure it will be with you. One mantra I keep repeating, is that what will be will be, and there is nothing I or anyone else can do! Good luck and keep us informed!

My scan is tomorrow and I'm absolutely petrified and couldn't sleep last night due to worrying. Ds is 12 and I don't remember being this worried with him. I think I've waited 12yrs to find somebody I love and want another child with that now it's here it's also overwhelming. 11am can't come quick enough tomorrow.

I was making myself feel ill worrying before my 12 week scan this time round. Never felt like that with ds1 & 2. Just felt like something was up.

All was fine, just a huge shock of twins.

I had my scan this morning , was petrified and shaking before i went in luckily my mum managed to make it, everything was good , 13+3 strong heartbeat and wriggling :) feeling very relieved and excited to watch my baby grow . i have just bought my first little white bodysuit :)

Congratulations anna! I had my scan today too and like you was convinced there was going to be bad news (DH made me stop googling as I was getting stressed out), but all looked good - such a relief!

Glad the scan went well.

For my 12 week scan I'd mentally prepared myself for the worst - having had 2 previous MC's I was sure I was going to get bad new but thankfully all was fine.

I was actually worse at my 20 week scan - I'd been googling all the anomolies that they check for and was sure my baby had one of them.

Turns out she's fine - perfect size, no issues and very, very active.
