16 weeks pregnant - when will I start to feel movement?

What it says on the tin really...

This is our first baby. At the 12 week scan the baby was doing all sorts of acrobatics and i was actually surprised that I couldn't feel anything!!

I was just wondering when I should expect to feel something? And um....how can you tell the difference between baby movements and wind? Blush

Anytime between now and around 20wks at first its like youve got butterflies won't be long til you can see an arm or leg poking out your belly

WaffleWiffle · 26/07/2014 21:47

Proper, obvious movements from about 22-23 weeks. Flutterings from several weeks before that.

PresidentSpreadable · 26/07/2014 22:40

I'm 20 weeks and have only just started to feel movements. My consultant said I may not feel proper distinct movements until 22-23 weeks - it's my first as well.

It can depend on whereabouts you placenta is as well, if it's at the front it can take a bit longer to feel movements.

You can start feeling things any time between about week 15 and week 24, it varies loads apparently!! countthekicks.org.uk/mums/your-babys-movements/babys-movements-week-by-week/

I started feeling pokes and flutters at 16 weeks or so, but even at 22 weeks I could see the baby moving in the sac on a scan, but it wasn't touching the edge so I couldn't feel it - I only felt some movements. By weeks 25+ I was feeling more definite patterns and regular 'kicks'.

I didn't feel anything till around 22 weeks this time, I have an anterior placenta and they said that's probably why. I'm pregnant with my second.

With my first son I felt movment sound 17 weeks xx

Firstpregnancy2014 · 27/07/2014 00:16

My first too- I didn't feel the flutters that everyone spoke of or if I did I didn't notice
Felt a very obvious out of the blue kick at 22 weeks.bi was beginning to worry but now he is moving about most nights :)

Taura · 27/07/2014 06:53

About 16w I thought I felt flutters, but nothing regular (only every few days - cue paranoia about lack of movement) but I'm now 20+1 and the flutters are much more noticeable, not clear kicks yet but definitely not just gas or my imagination.

Makeupandkiss87 · 27/07/2014 08:38

I totally panicked as I didn't feel movements until around 23/24 weeks but my Midwife assured me that was normal :)

For me, I probably felt very faint "bubbles" from about 20 weeks (though I couldn't convince myself of them) and more definite but occasional movements from 22-24 weeks. It was only at 25-27 weeks that I started feeling more regular kicks. This is my first pregnancy, and my scan showed I have a high anterior placenta (which cushions the movements).

Dogsmom · 27/07/2014 10:23

I first felt dd at 16 weeks, it was a definite tapping, it took a bit of getting used to.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 27/07/2014 13:56

I felt movement the day after the 20 week scan but it will vary.

liesal79 · 28/07/2014 15:44

I have a placenta at the front, and felt very light fluttering last night - I am 19 weeks! I had prepared myself to wait, as they said I could have problems!
I am looking forward to more definite movements soon :)

kitkat321 · 29/07/2014 09:29

I didn't really any flutterings but suddenly started getting proper strong kicks at 18 1/2 weeks - now 21 1/2 and she's still at it - sometimes they are so strong it makes me jump and at the weekend you could actually see my tummy moving when she kicked.

At both the 12 and 20 weeks scans the sonographer commented on what a very busy and active baby we had - don't I know it!!!
