Getting worried as 21 weeks and I have literally not bought anything as yet! Starting to panic a little but I have no idea where to start. I walk into mothercare and other shops and just look at everything and just get brain freeze! Anyone else?

You are just about the right time for getting started!

Just think of the biggies for now -

Somewhere to sleep
A seat for the car
A sling or pushchair for getting around (or both)

BeetlingAbout · 23/07/2014 21:09

Don't panic! I'm 23 weeks and not bought a thing. Mostly I don't want to jinx anything, but also we don't have a lot of space to have things hanging around for ages. There's still months to go so don't worry!

JuniDD · 23/07/2014 21:10

I'm 27 weeks and have some clothes (for the baby!), a car seat and some nappies. Oh, a book and a soft toy. Gonna hit the shops once maternity leave starts in three weeks. Don't worry!

The main pregnancy site on here has a good page on what to get.

Excitedmumtobe007 · 23/07/2014 21:11

Thank you! Thinkivebeenhacked, I think you are right, I just need to focus on the big things. It's all a bit alien to me as no one in the family has babies so I have no one to share ideas and what to do with!

There are some great pushchair pros around so you could even delegate out to us! Start a pushchair thread with your requirements and budget and we come to youGrin

30 weeks - bought buggy on ebay about 4 weeks ago, and only bought some clothes yesterday. Plenty of time.

Lisad1975 · 23/07/2014 21:32

I only started getting a few bits like clothes etc... If see sales on in shops I like .
Im 25 weeks and I dont feel in a huge rush tbh !

FTMK · 23/07/2014 21:47

I'm 23 weeks and have bought nothing! We went to Mothercare and mamas and papas at the weekend and then decided it was too confusing! We need to clear out the room that will be the nursery first. Aiming to get stuff sorted over the next couple of months.

squizita · 23/07/2014 22:29

Blimy you have LOADS of time.
I only started buying things after a good 32 week appointment with my consultant: nowadays you can get almost anything online for next day delivery or splurge in a big out of town baby store.

We've ordered a pram/carseat, were given a whole load of newborn clothes by a friend and have bought a steriliser, muslins, a couple of bottles, nappies, a swaddling blanket and a grobag and a playtime blanket.
Ordering a moses basket at the weekend, and a bath support.
Picking up water wipes etc' every time I'm in Tesco a bit at a time.

Mrsgrumble · 23/07/2014 22:33

You don't need much

Travel system, cot or Moses basket, maybe bouncer chair but not essential

If formula feeding, steriliser etc

About eight gros and vests, mittens, water wipes. Hat cardi

Your own bag

Excitedmumtobe007 · 23/07/2014 22:37

Thank you everyone, I think I just panicked when people were saying I need to get a wriggle on. Lots of great advice so will try and get sorted soon

I'm 22 weeks, not bought anything and don't plan to until we move (hopefully in the next 6 weeks).
It'll all come together in the end. Don't worry!

s88 · 24/07/2014 14:15

Iv just had to replace my son's bouncer as it broke , I now have a bright starts rocking chair that I got from toys r us . It lasts up to being a toddler , 39.99 in the sale , he loves it .

You have LOADS of time. You still have half the pregnancy left! Just start going a bit if research on the bigger items and then buy them when you are ready. I waited until I was on maternity leave. Enjoy your spare time now whole you feel well. The baby stuff can always be ordered online in one hit. Basically what I'm saying is there is no need to panic!

Heatherbell1978 · 24/07/2014 15:22

You have loads of time, really. I didn't consider buying anything until after the 20 wk scan. Then I spent loads of time researching what I needed and finding the best price. Rather than go into shops, just do it all online. That way you know what you want before you go into the shop (less intimidating) or just order online. Nearly everything we have has been bought online; I've only gone into Mamas & Papas a handful of times. Oh I'm 37 wks and just finished.

liesal79 · 24/07/2014 15:53

I have decided to not be pushed into panic buying!!! Im only 18 weeks but people are on at me already! :)

Thanks everyone, I feel so much more reassured. I can't believe I am over half way through! It has flown ??. In terms of prams I will be doing loads of walking but I will also be driving an hour to see mum (once I am able too) so pram will need to be lightweight for car. Any ideas for a pram/buggy that will be strong enough for pounding the promenade at the beach where I live and suitable to travel an hour a few times a week to mums?

Also worth considering you really don't need a nursery at the moment. Your baby will be in your room up until 6 months. 'Baby' furniture is a complete waste if time. Get full sized furniture that will last.

35 weeks and nothing bought yet. Not a muslin. Second child syndrome!

madamweasel · 25/07/2014 19:04

Apart from the big ticket items, look at the hospital bag list for things you will need from about 30 weeks for the baby so that it has something to wear, etc.
