Anyone who has been prescribed Iron tablets?

With DC1 and 2 I suffered badly with breathlessness and feeling faint in my third trimester. With DS2 I was prescribed iron tablets and it really helped. This time I'd rather not let it get that far, so as I'm headed into my third trimester I was thinking of just getting some iron tablets myself.

Can't remember the dosage though. Can anyone who has a prescription tell me theirs? Is it possible to take too much?

TIA

Not prescribed, but a lot of pregnancy multi-vitamins contain iron. Are you taking pregnancy multi-vits at all?

It is possible to take in too much iron.

It varies from 200mg a day to 600mg.

I am on 600mg a day at 36 weeks.
would be best to have your levels checked to be sure though.

My pregnancy vits contain 14mg, I thought it was in the 100s that I was prescribed before. Looks like I will have to get a prescription.

Thanks!

I'm on 400mg per day at 37 weeks but I felt ok before I was put on them and now they're upsetting my stomach so I think I'm going have to speak to the midwife and adjust my dose Sad

You can buy exactly the same ferrous sulphate 200mg tablets over the counter as the gp would prescribe.

Start with 1 tablet a day.

However I agree it might be sensible to see if you can get your levels checked first. GP can order it.

My midwife advised against self medicating. I would ask midwife or gp.

Better to get a blood test 1st and get GP to prescribe.

I've been anarchic since I was a teenager but controlled with iron and vit c. Then changed to pregnancy vits and stopped taking the others. Felt very angelic so some to midwife who said it was okay to take extra iron, but didn't prescribe any.
