What's this on my scan?

Had my 12-week scan last week, just noticed the pale blob above the baby and wondered what it was. Is it just the shape of my uterus? Does this look OK? Hope it's nothing scary, surely the sonographer would have mentioned it if it was!

What's this on my scan?

Think the sonographer would have mentioned anything if a problem. And much more knowledgable than any of us on here! Anything in your notes?

Lalalax3 · 22/07/2014 20:49

Is it not your placenta?!

omgherecomesno2 · 22/07/2014 20:59

Totally unrelated but that looks like a boy xx

so it's either a girl or a boy? Grin

Well hopefully one or the other! (We're keeping it a surprise...)

There's nothing at all written in the 'Comments' section for the scan in my notes. Do they normally send something with the letter confirming the combined test results, or do I just assume no comments = no problems? (It does have my CRM, EDD and NT measurement noted at the top of the page, which are fine).

I think this is wear the sonographer was putting the scan machine - sorry for lack of technical terms! As when I had a private scan dvd I saw the same blob every now and again and soon realised it was where they were pushing in my tummy with the machine

Where*

Remember that a USS is a cross-section so it really depends on where the probe is at the time what things are. Plain USS images are pretty useless for diagnosis. As a doctor, I either need to see the scan or get the report from the person who did the scan in real time.

My guess (I don't do obs!) is that it could an artefact/reflection off the placenta or might be a cross-section of the baby's fingers/hand or something like that.

What I am very, very sure about is that it is completely unremarkable otherwise the sonographer would have mentioned something and looked further into things.
