Pregnancy

What are your more uncommon symptoms?

We all know the regular ones, swelling, heartburn, sickness etc etc etc just wondering who is suffering from less usual side effects and would be interested to see if any if them are more common than you might think.

So, I'm 29 weeks now and have noticed the following...

Dandruff Hmm not something I normally get, but pregnancy seems to set it off

Skin tags and swollen moles, more moles/freckles and general little bits of skin discolouration (had this when pregnant with ds as well so not worried it's something more sinister!)

Nose bleeds and bleeding gums

Anyone else experiencing any of these or care to share their own more unusual experiences?

I hardly ever have to wash my hair anymore either! I do, though, just once a week, but it used to be every other day! My usual spotty greasy skin has dried out loads, I have had to change everything I put on my face from anti spot type stuff to emollients everywhere.
Lots of earwax and snot in the first 3 months... Nice!!

yes to nose bleeds and fucking painful cramps in upper inner thighs. ouch!

whiteblossom the skin tags I got when pg with ds just went in the months following his birth so I wouldn't worry too much about removing them yet.

katethehuman yes I had that!! For a couple of weeks I could just smell poo all the bloody time! I was extra paranoid about it seeing as we are potty training as well.....

So glad I started this thread!

Horrendous nipple pain, especially when cold (supermarkets were a no-go) in the first and second trimesters
Weird taste (like gas) and clumsiness/lack of co-ordination until about 7 weeks gone
Facial tic above my top lip for whole first trimester

Early pregnancy was an interesting time!

towards the end of my pregnancy I would get a sudden red-hot burning pain on the side of my left thigh when I was sitting down. Really, really painful and quite scary the first time it happened.

I think it was a nerve problem, something like the weight of the baby straining or squeezing it.

Oh the dribbling when asleep! my poor pillows!

My normally greasy by end of day 2 hair is now looking ok on day 3 - fab!

Freckles - I'm brunette and usually just go slightly brown or pink - but all of a sudden I've got freckles. That said DH is a red head so am hoping it means Blueberry's inheriting that (should that be an old wives tale? - freckles on someone pregnant who's not freckled before means a red-headed child...)

@squizita yes to the hard bogeys. I had that too!

Also before I was even pregnant enough to test (I'd guess STRAIGHT after implantation) I got the driest hands in the world. Lizardy for about 2 days, hand cream did nothing and then it went away. Told DP thought it meant I was pregnant and he thought I was nuts. But I was. Then didn't have it again until the day I went into labour.. I knew it was a sign he was coming but no-one would believe me!

Asthma -only ever when pregnant. And a little dark patch of hair amongst my blonde pubes, as if all that under-bump shade meant the sun wasn't bleaching it.

I also had nosebleeds and hair that didn't need washing.

Lots if things I had were the opposite of normal: hair falling out during pregnancy, not afterwards; morning sickness that got worse as the day went on (breakfast was about the only meal I could stomach); heartburn that went away at night when I lay down, instead of getting worse...

I also had pain in the backs of my heels. Oh, and my asthma and hay fever went away.

Some nice ones in there, some not so nice! Unfortunately, the greasy hair thing stopped soon after the birth. It would have been so convenient not to have to wash my hair in those first few weeks!

Rib flare

You will know if you have it, but it feels like your ribcage (on one or both sides) near the bottom is being pushed into your lung - even though it's expanding out. It's caused by the pain in the pregnancy that is ligaments Hmm

I got weird (non-painful) blisters on the surface of my eyeballs every morning. They disappeared after about an hour but neither my GP or optician had any idea what it was or how to fix it. Stopped as soon as I gave birth and hasn't reappeared since.

Whiteblossom - my beautician zaps my skin tags with an electrolysis needle and they go crispy (gross I know) and then fall off a couple of days later. I've not had any scarring from it and she has done them on my face and body.

I had the sleep orgasms.

Most weirdly, I had the itchiest bottom and back of thighs ever. I couldn't wear tights, and could only wear cotton knickers. It drove me INSANE.

My left ear gets blocked up/pops, I had it with DS as well and got it this time (I'm 32 weeks). It's not wax, I went to the docs to get my ears syringed and they said they couldn't do it - there was no wax! It's like when your ears pop when you go uphill or in a plane, I assume it's something to do with blood pressure.

Report
NorahBone · 18/07/2014 19:33

twosa I went to the docs for syringing too! I have something (it turns out) called eustachian tube disfuncion, which is where your ears are blocked, usually after a cold, like you're under water. I had it before pregnancy, but while pregnant it got steadily worse and I also assume it's to do with blood pressure. By the end it affected me any time I wasn't horizontal. I pushed so hard while giving birth it popped and since it's been back to pre-pregnancy levels of annoyance.
