Pregnancy

What are your more uncommon symptoms?

We all know the regular ones, swelling, heartburn, sickness etc etc etc just wondering who is suffering from less usual side effects and would be interested to see if any if them are more common than you might think.

So, I'm 29 weeks now and have noticed the following...

Dandruff Hmm not something I normally get, but pregnancy seems to set it off

Skin tags and swollen moles, more moles/freckles and general little bits of skin discolouration (had this when pregnant with ds as well so not worried it's something more sinister!)

Nose bleeds and bleeding gums

Anyone else experiencing any of these or care to share their own more unusual experiences?

Though of another one. Weird scaly dry brown patches just under my knees. I think it's relatively normal but this time they seem much more obvious!

When I was about 12 weeks pregnant all I could smell was a sort of ultra, ultra sweet mincemeat (as in mince pie filling) smell. It was Christmas, but this smell was EVERYWHERE...I couldn't escape from it. It was vomitous.

Thanks for the leg tips MrsNutella - and I hear you on the farts (not literally), just unpegged some washing a did a massive pump each time I reached for a peg.

Kiterun I have awful problems with my legs. Try a cool bath or shower your legs with the shower on really cold and slowly moving it up and down your legs and focus on the back of your knees. Good in the morning and before bed. Also take a magnesium supplement just before bed.
If it's really bad, sexy sexy compression stockings. You should be able to get a prescription for them from a dr.

I'm not going to miss my compression stockings at the end of the pregnancy!

I also have terrible farts. I'm pretty sure the iron supplements aren't helping either with that end of things!

Thank goodness for fantastic pregnancy hair and nails; though the rest of me has gone to seed I think Confused

In the early days I gagged every time I brushed my teeth and used aerosol deodorant.

I'm 29 weeks now and I've got self-cleaning hair too - it's brilliant. And until reading this thread I didn't know the name for rib-flare, but I've had that too.

Also despite the fact I'm hardly getting any sleep - due to leg cramps, waking up every time I turn, the clammy heat, etc - I don't feel too bad during the day (the pre-pregnant me would be a mess if I had to cope with the amount of sleep I get now).

Lol. My skins just gone weird, but so did my mums. When she had me she developed an allergy to everything under the sun. Hope I don't follow suit!

Glad to hear it deardinah (well, you know what I mean!) I did wonder of it's something to do with the fact I'm not really losing any hair off my head at the moment so there's just more of a buildup....

Oh and I couldn't drink water at all in either pregnancy and in my second (hyperemesis) pregnancy I couldn't even open the fridge without vomiting. Oh and in my first pregnancy I couldn't stand being near Dh cos he stank! He didn't really but my nose was so sensitive. Did I mention I hate being pregnant?

My first pregnancy I had skin tags grow everywhere, had to have one frozen off it was so big, also got carpal tunnel syndrome and my hands were useless by the end of my pregnancy. Also had the red splotches on my face from burst capillaries I think?
Second pregnancy I was like the hairy wolf man absolutely mental. I also dribbled a lot at night and woke up on wet pillows. Gross. And that's not counting the more normal symptoms of extreme all bastard day and night morning sickness and spd. I hate being pregnant.

Next to each eye I have a thumb print sized patch of dark skin. Looks like I've had a make up removal fail.

Yes to hearing loss, I also had some vision disturbance too - couldn't watch some programme titles etc as they made me feel sick. Still feel very shortsighted 3 months after birth, so prob time for a new prescription.

Also got a smattering of new freckles/moles/skin tags, mostly on boobs.

Spider veins on feet quadrupled in size and darkness. Most unflattering. Mostly back to normal now.

My luxuriant and plentiful arm hair fell out in the 3rd trimester, that was a weird one. Sadly it's now growing back in. Ah well. :(

I had moments just now and then when I would suddenly feel horribly, cold all over. To the point where I felt quite scared! A bit like being feverish and shivering, but much worse. Something similar happened both times immediately after the birth - something to do with the spinal block and my blood rearranging itself, according to the anaesthetist. Weird.

My teeth separated! WTF?! I thought I was making it up, but then looked at photos of the time and nope - Madonna style gap between my two front teeth when pregnant. Really weird as totally changed the look of my face (for the worse). Completely returned to original gap-free position now. Weird, weird, weird.

Lovely shiny hair that didn't need washing.

Horrendously smelly farts. In fact that's how I knew I was pregnant second time - they returned!

Yes! Crazy weird stuff going on here too!
Moles popping out from what were "beauty spots".
Stupid dry nose and then giant bogies.
Ears suddenly feeling like I'm going up in a plane and can't hear properly.

Most annoying: patch of eczema on my face that moves around (from next to mouth, to next to nose, near eye, over eye and then it might pop up elsewhere) but will not go away.

Otherwise fairly normal. Hormonal, lots of water in legs and rage.... Oh yes. Over things that I know are stupid but I really can't help it or stop it.

twosa I went to the docs for syringing too! I have something (it turns out) called eustachian tube disfuncion, which is where your ears are blocked, usually after a cold, like you're under water. I had it before pregnancy, but while pregnant it got steadily worse and I also assume it's to do with blood pressure. By the end it affected me any time I wasn't horizontal. I pushed so hard while giving birth it popped and since it's been back to pre-pregnancy levels of annoyance.

TwosaCrowd · 18/07/2014 19:07

My left ear gets blocked up/pops, I had it with DS as well and got it this time (I'm 32 weeks). It's not wax, I went to the docs to get my ears syringed and they said they couldn't do it - there was no wax! It's like when your ears pop when you go uphill or in a plane, I assume it's something to do with blood pressure.
