Everyone is of the same opinion that you always go over your due date with firat baby. Is this true and if so why, what proof is there.

Wanted to book a newborn photographer but she said my dates didnt work with her calender and shes booked up in September when I stated I was due in August, her words 'first time mums always go over in my experience'.

I dont want to go go over this baby is measuring big at 35 weeks already. Whats the Odds

50% is the odds. The due date is an average. Half of babies approximately come after their due date.

ShovettyMcShovetty · 16/07/2014 15:53

I'm no expert, but just thinking about the people I know who have had babies... I can think of two who did not go overdue but both of them were induced early due to pre-eclampsia. Everyone else I know has gone over with their first.

fledermaus · 16/07/2014 15:54

The average for a first time mother is a bit longer - 8 day over iirc.

Velvetbee · 16/07/2014 15:58

DC 1 was 2 weeks early.

Angelto5 · 16/07/2014 16:02

I have 5dc & have never got to my due dates. My first was born 12 days early. I'd failed my driving test & went into labour a few hours later.

TheWiseOldElf · 16/07/2014 16:11

This is interesting reading on the subject. The best advice is not to overthink it because you'll only upset yourself if you do go overdue but that's easier said than done Grin

HappyHippyChick · 16/07/2014 16:12

My dc1 was early.

Pangaea · 16/07/2014 16:14

Dc1 was 3 weeks early.

dreamingofwineandcheese · 16/07/2014 16:26

Out of the babies I know born in the last few years 13 have been late and 3 have been early.

I went 10 days over with DS it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The day I relaxed and resigned myself to the fact baby would come when it was ready was the day I went in to labour. Coincidence maybe but I do believe the more relaxed you are the more it helps.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/07/2014 16:50

DS was 8 days early.

CPtart · 16/07/2014 16:51

DS1 five days late

MirandaWest · 16/07/2014 16:51

11 days early with DS

Fairypants · 16/07/2014 16:55

My first was a week early which totally freaked me out as I was expecting her to be at least a week late.

TakingTheStairs · 16/07/2014 16:57

I was told I had 3% to 4% chance of going early.

DS arrived 5 weeks early.

I had a lovely photographer booked for a newborn session who managed to rearrange things to facilitate the session even when DS arrived early and we were very happy with the photos. She is based in London and if you would like her name I would be happy to supply it.

TakingTheStairs · 16/07/2014 16:58

Oh and no pre-eclampsia or obvious reason for it (and DS wasn't ready to come out so it wasn't him "deciding" he was ready. )

FoxSticks · 16/07/2014 17:00

Dd was three weeks early.

ShadowFall · 16/07/2014 17:01

No idea about official odds, but in my family at least we don't tend to go past the due date.

DS1 - born at 34 + 1 weeks.

DN1 - born at 38 weeks.

Mum's DC1 - born at 39 weeks.

thatwhichwecallarose · 16/07/2014 17:02

Of the 8 women who play in a band with me, 6 were early with their firsts. So not necessarily true that they go over.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 16/07/2014 17:05

dS1 6 days late
Ds2 6 days late
Ds3 5 days late. All big babies.

My 2 cousins both had their first babies a few weeks early.

sick9876 · 16/07/2014 17:32

Dd1 was 9 days early

angelopal · 16/07/2014 22:09

Dd1 one day early.
Dd2 on her due date

Both spontaneous labours.

LBNM19 · 16/07/2014 23:30

My first child was born at 37 weeks xx

dontevenblink · 17/07/2014 01:01

dc1 was born at 39 +4, dc2 at 39+6, dc3 at 39. So never made it to my due date!

I do have very regular 28 day cycles and knew the conception date so don't know if that makes a difference?

I know a few people who didn't make it to their due date either! They are just estimates after all... Smile

Eminybob · 17/07/2014 01:37

17 days early (due date 29th of this month)
We had had a late scan which put him big though. He was 7lb 2oz when born.
