heyy, i was at hosp last Friday with a bit of blood it was very brown and not a lot but they scanned me anyway and all looked ok, the browny stuff stopped on Sunday. Then this morning I've woke up to quite a lot more blood and its redder than b4,it sort of gushed out so I phoned again and they said coz I was scanned on fri they like to wait a week inbetween scans so i got an appointment for friday again, I'm so worried tho coz its muh worse than the first time :-( does anyone know the reason they wait a week between scans, is it bad for the baby?x

Hi hun.

I had a mmc last year and had to wait a week between scans. The reason they do this is because the baby should have grown significantly in a week so they can accurately tell if there has been any development or not.

Hugs, I know what an anxious time this may be x

How many weeks are you?

I was diagnosed after 2 bleeds at 5 and 6 weeks with a blighted ovum/anembryonic pregnancy (where a sac develops but no baby material develops inside it.

I was sent away to wait for 9 days for a confirmation scan and was booked in for the removal op the day after the confirmation scan. When the scan came, they were very sure to look really closely.

You could have knocked me down with a feather at that point because after 30 mins of looking they found a little bean at approx right size and a heartbeat. I'm now nearly 14weeks with our bubs, so although I know it's a really emotionally difficult time during the wait, they have to check and follow protocol, just in case. I was resigned to the fact I wasn't pregnant anymore, and to my 2nd mc in a row - and then I had to change my thoughts and outlook again (thankfully).

Thinking of you. Try and remember that, whatever the outcome, you will survive in the end. Sending hugs x

The reason they wait is it is the only way of seeing whether the embryo is growing - any shorter than a week and they might misdiagnose a MC.
Not every hospital does this, but I can well understand why it is best to do it... a friend of mine was told her pregnancy was a MMC after one scan. Started to drink again, eat liver etc'. Turned out not to be the case - thankfully the baby is fine.
Similarly, if the woman chose to take a tablet/operation to make the MC swifter, they 100% don't want to make a mistake.

FX for you, that at the next scan all will be well. Thanks
