without outing myself, my younger sister has just sent me a message saying her waters have broken and they have kept her in hospital. She is about 34/35 weeks so I know baby is considered viable but please give me some reassurance that all will be ok!

I have no idea if all or just some of her waters have gone and all she has said is she is being monitored

My 2nd was born at 35 weeks and weighed 6lb6oz. Obv I'm no medical expert, but I see no reason why, even if she had baby today, all wouldn't be well. Good luck to her. You sound like you're going to be a fantastic auntie! :)

Friends DS born at 34weeks is way ahead of other children his own (not corrected age). Spent a little bit of time in transition ward & was tube feed for the first week but is an absolute superstar.
They were in for a couple of weeks & I know friend got really fed up with the hospital food & used to get people to smuggle food in for her. Might be something you could think about doing to help.

It's early but not that early. 24 weeks + is viable. They may well just keep her in and try and keep baby in place for a few days... Otherwise welcome baby Grin

Thanks love!

Haha apples not sure I could as her dh is a surgeon at the hospital so guessing his ass would be grass if we did that but may get away with a mountain of chocolates!!

Hen - she was due on my dd's birthday so would be nice for her if it doesn't fall that way as then her baby doesn't have to share but as long as it's happy and healthy is allthat matters!!

My bouncy, non-stop, couldn't shut her up if you tried 3 1/2 year old was born at 35 weeks on the dot weighing 5lb 6oz, she had a bit of jaundice other than that no problems at all. She has met all of her milestones to her birth date not her due date, and to be honest it used to drive me crackers when the counted her back!

My waters went from 35weeks. Dd born at 38. Completely fine (now 8). She's clever, untidy, spends half her life upsude down diing cartwheels and handstands or reading with her legs up the wall. I am fairly sure that's "normal" Smile
Best of luck to them and best wishes auntie to be

Any update OP? Hope alls going well.

squizita · 16/07/2014 12:12

I am being monitored after 34 weeks, if they have any concerns they will induce me ... because after 34 weeks the baby is considered well able to survive in most cases! So yes, it is early - but the vast majority of babies are OK.

My dd is nearly 5. She was born week 33. She weighed 6lb 7oz!! She spent 23 days on scbu. Was hell on earth at the time but she is absolutely fine. Your sister's baby will be born in the best place possible. ANd she is prepared as her waters have broken. Good luck.. keep us posted x
