Third tri mamas feeling the heat?

Does anybody have an tips for this 33 weeks pregnant mama on dealing with hit weather?

I just read it might get to 30c in my area on Thurs/Fri and I nearly cried. Stuffy days and miserable long, hot nights are getting the better of me. And to top it off, my HG is 3x worse when I'm hot and tired, so I puke all day too!

Help!

Hold the inside of your wrists under cold running water until you feel cooler.

When going out take a small bottle of frozen water with you. Hold it om your forehead and inside of your wrists to cool you. As the ice melts, you have ready chilled water to drink. I always did this when I lived in London and travelled on stiffling public transport daily... Worked a treat!

31 weeks with a 2 year old DD.... Who I swear is on crack. She is hyper 24/7 and never ever stops!! I love on the 9th floor in an old style concrete tower so it is just absorbing this heat. My DH also cocoons himself in the duvet and then likes to cuddle in his sleep but with PGP I can't sleep on the sofa! I sleep in as little as possible with a sheet only. Curtains drawn all day with black out blinds for DD's room. Those ones from Gro are awesome!!
Cold showers are heaven, and soaking feet etc. Have gestational diabetes and am SERIOUSLY jealous of all the ice pops and ice cream eaters... I can't do that and am limited to plain water ice cubes!!
I had dd in a heat wave July 2012 so I remember this.
Good luck everyone x

My mother was a health visitor and told me long ago never to have a baby in the summer as it was hell to be hot and not pleasant to expose acres of flesh for people to gawp at...
Mine were March and May and I enjoyed the summer breast-feeding under a parasol in the garden with baby in lovely outfits and bonnets...PPP Wink

I'm 28 weeks do have the whole summer to look forward to. Not.
I'm currently sat in my living room, curtains drawn & just in my bra & knickers. I don't care if anyone knocks on the door, I'm getting dressed for no one ??

32 weeks and in the south. Until a week ago I didn't get the whole feeling hot in pregnancy thing.

I get it now. It's too hot to knit!

DP been sent up to loft for fan, and am seriously considering finally getting round to shaving my legs so can wear a skirt.

Parenting being done at an absolute minimum - whatever they want they get Grin. No cooking is being done in this house.

I've lived in some pretty hot places without AC. my top tips are to put a bottle of ice cold water in front of the fab and to put a cold flannel on your wrists/forehead. I've even slept in a top rinsed in cold water before
Also this is probably obvious but try closing your bedroom blinds during the day to keep the sun out and open everything up once it starts to cool off.
Thankfully I'm only 27w but I do need to catch the Piccadilly line in the am...

So just plugged my Gro egg in for the first time, and this is the temp in my house at 9pm. Christ alive. I need a thunderstorm again tonight or it's going to be hellish!

Also what the hell am I going to do with the poor baby in this heat when he's born? If it's like this in 4 weeks he's going to spend his time naked. It's so over the recommended room temp :(

Babies in really hot countries survive though dont they?.

You'll be ok.

Oh I know he'll survive! Just that when people are so careful about hats and blankets and new borns need to be wrapped up, I'm going to have a hell of a time working out what to do if our room is 26 degrees! Also I'm mainly wringing about my own discomfort at this point Grin

Goodness today has been a hot one. Me and the toddler have had 3 cold baths. We spent ages in Paperchase as they have very good air con. I had to stand reading all the cards while i cooled off.

We are now having the most loud and incredible storm. But somehow DS is sleeping thru it. I am having a weak shandy and watching the lightening.

I put an icepack at the bottom of the bed last night - was great, just kept changing feet on it until I went to sleep. Made a huge difference. Everytime I got up to wee (about 7 times I think... nice), when I got back on (not in) the bed, I put my feet back on it and went straight to sleep.

So humid in South Wales today I feel like I can't breathe. Want to be at home in my underwear but have an nct breast feeding class.

Have drunk a litre of water on the20 min train journey to town!!

I'm 39 weeks and live in California. Although I think it's actually cooler here than in London (well it's 3.45am right now but I mean during the day). And we don't have the humidity you have. This is our 3rd summer here and thankfully we now have a window a/c unit and overhead fans that my DH installed. Couldn't survive without them! I feel for you all with the nasty humidity and hot nights. Agree with keeping the house as dark as possible and keeping hydrated.

I used to sit with my feet in a bucket of cold water, with a wet towel around my shoulders and neck with a fan on full blast, we had no aircon and Australian northern summers are brutal, forget the housework it will still be there, avoiding heat exhaustion is far more important. Drink as much cold water as you feel like, the occasional sports drink to replenish electrolytes is a good idea.

It sounds really bizarre but I have found that putting a damp tea towel over my forehead really helps! I have a fan in my room too but found it didn't really help but the damp tea towel worked a treat!

I plonk myself in front of the fan! I keep the curtains drawn nearly all the time as it keeps the rooms cool and as many windows open as possible. I get told off for it but it works a treat! I'm 34 weeks and luckily, since I leave the curtains closed in my bedroom, it has been relatively easy to sleep at night and this is without a fan.

I'm 40 weeks tomorrow with a 2 year old DD who is very keen on me doing everything active! My DH is a teacher so now on holiday and so I have become a slug like creature. I have now parked myself in front of the fan with gallons of cold drink! I'm sadly proud of the fact I managed to convince my DD that mummy's bumb needed 'cleanjng' (one of her favourite activities) with a cold cloth - beautiful! Also recommend stick on cool patches, don't last long but I imagine would make a difference is you ate still commuting!

I have so much sympathy for the pregnant Londeners who have to get the tube in this heat. I'm 31 weeks and struggle to stand up for very long without feeling dizzy. We have the fan on at night and I try to stay inside most of the day. It's rough on my two year old but I just can't do it! I try to have a siesta when he naps and then do all the housework etc in the early morning or late evening when it's cooler. I don't know what I'd do without him napping at about midday! The other salvation is the swimming baths. It feels wro g to be indoors during such a gorgeous summer but it's the best way to keep cool and keep little one entertained!
