Pregnancy in unknown location

I've had a rollercoaster the past week. After heavy bleeding and passing clots I was told I had a miscarriage on Friday after a scan. I think i was nearly 6 weeks along. They took my hcg levels on Friday and repeated them on Sunday where to my surprise they had more than doubled. They are now saying I could still be pregnant and are treating me as having a pregnancy in an unknown location (pul). I had more blood tests today and have a scan in 6 days.

Has anyone had a PUL and went on to have a baby? I'm going out of my mind with worry that its ectopic.

Hi MFras

I'm sorry to hear that and I really hope your case will turn out much better than mine... I don't mean to scare you but I too had a PUL - the only problem with me was that I miscarried 6 weeks ago on the day the scan was taken, nothing could be found and of course they couldn't date the pregnancy, hence they went by my hormone levels.

It is great your hormone levels had more than doubled - often in ectopic pregnancy they don't quite double in 48 hours' time. So hopefully this is a good sign.
I was bleeding very heavily and passing chunky clots and I was actually admitted to hospital but every time they scanned me the baby was still there on the screen :-) But I lost too much blood and actually had a very rare type of pregnancy called a caesarean scar pregnancy which they classify as ectopic but it isn't really. I had a very traumatic experience which I don't really want to detail here.... I guess what I am trying to say is that it doesn't always mean passing clots = loss of a baby. Every body is different and deals with pregnancy in its own manner so I am truly hoping everything goes well for you.
ThanksSmile

Hi Mfras

I had bleeding from 5 weeks which was lighter than a period. I was scanned at 6+1 and they couldn't see anything, said probably a misscarriage. They took bloods and my hcg went up but not doubled. They said that's how they knew it wasn't a viable pregnancy.

I was scanned more and had more bloods where my hcg was going up and up and they decided it was a pregnancy of unknown location and I needed a metho shot to resolve it just in case.

Eventually my hcg was over a 1000 which was when they say they can see it on a scan and there it was near my ovary. I had another shot and thankfully this time it worked. It was very traumatic but I was very lucky.

The fact that yours is doubling is reassuring and a reason to stay positive but I know it's very hard. I read a lot of stories at the time and there were definitely some happy outcomes regarding pul.

Fingers crossed for you Thanks

Thanks for your replies. I got my blood results back last night and they almost doubled but not quite. I went from 700 to 1300. It's going to be a long wait until my scan.
