My wisdom tooth has been KILLING me for the last three days. No fever, just agonising jaw/ cheekbone/ face pain. Hard to eat anything. I know you're not supposed to do any dental work in first trimester (I'm 11w today) but anybody have any home remedy/ pain relief tips that are ok when you're pregnant?? Paracetamol is no longer cutting it.

oh no! toothache is the worst I had it at 20 weeks wanted to rip my face off!! can you not go to dentist, they probably give you antibiotics, if there is an infection there which is what it sounds like, they won't do much else till after baby!!

Thanks romo, I already had to take a round of antibiotics for an IT infection, though, and my GP advised against another round so soon. It is so painful, wanting to rip face off is most perfect way to describe it ConfusedConfused

I had a similar problem recently - try mouthwash. with in a couple of days my teeth were back to normal.

rubbing raw garlic is meant to help, rinse with salt water...I really feel for you, I'd rather give birth to ten babies one after the other than have toothache...Sad hope it gets better soon xx

Do the damn dental work. My dentist recommended avoiding work involving amalgam so we cancelled a couple of filling removals, but said anything else was fine (although not ideal to do xrays, you can wear the lead apron).

When I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed I did have to take the antibiotics for a week first though, as the pus made it too difficult to work on them. I really really would go back or speak to your GP about it.

You could also try rubbing oil of cloves on the area. Manky, but can work.

Oh no I'm in third trimester and have just had 2 weeks of agonising pain before root canal. I did take antibiotics and paracetamol but it didnt cut it. All you can do is be informed and get the work done. Sounds like you're nearly in the 2nd trimester?

Yes, almost in second, couple more weeks. I tried the mouthwash and garlic and it does feel a bit better today ( either that, or I am slowly becoming accustomed to the pain... ) Have another doc appointment scheduled for this weekend so if it's still bad then, I'll consider more drastic action. Thanks all for the tea and sympathy!!
