12 week scan at 11 weeks...

I have my '12 week' scan on the 21st and I will actually be 11 weeks. The midwife was unsure if they would be able to do all the appropriate health checks. Has anyone else had their 12 week around this time?

At my first can I was 11+2 (thats what i was measured at) and it all seemed to go fine. Now im just waiting till friday for my 20 wek scan :)

That's good to hear. I think its the nuchal fold in particular that might be too early. Congratulations! Hope all is well for Friday!

It should be between 11 and 13 weeks according to my midwife.

I had my 12 week scan at 11 weeks and had to go back at 13 for another scan as it was too small to do the nucal scan. They just made a return appointment there and then.

I think it's fine. Not all women can remember the date of their last period so the 12 week appointment is not always accurate anyway.

I had mine at 11 + 5 and had to go back a week later for a repeat scan, partly because the baby was too small to get the nuchal fold measurement and partly because it was in slightly the wrong position. All was fine the following week.

Thanks all. Just wondering if you had to go back did you announce your pregnancy after the first scan or the 2nd when you knew everything was ok? I was quite surprised to get a scan so soon!

We waited until the second scan but we had already told parents due to previous mcs. It would have been fine after the first but I am paraniod, even now at 26 weeks...

We waited until after the second scan, although I had already told very close friends and family so i didn't mind waiting. I would have announced it after the first scan but my DH wanted to wait.

What do you mean by announce after you know all is ok? In terms of knowing baby is alive or If you mean the Down's syndrome screening? Because those results don't come through for about 2 weeks after the scan though if it is a high risk result you should hear in about 5 days though obviously it is only a screening test and not diagnostic.

Oh I didn't realise it took a few weeks I thought they could give you an idea there and then based on measurements.

They combine the scan results with blood test results and they come through the post a couple of weeks later.

I have already had an early scan. I expect them to change the date though!

According to the NHS website the nuchal fold scan can be done between 11+2 and 14+1. Which of course presumes that you know when you're exactly 11+2... They'll just do another scan if it's too small to measure properly. For dating, the earlier the better so 11 weeks is actually good.

I had the screening bloods taken the week before the 12 week scan then was given the results for risk of Downs Syndrome on the day of the scan. So I think it varies.

I had bloods done with my midwife last week so im presuming thats what those were for plus other checks. Thanks for all the info ladies

Hey I had my 12 week scan on Friday, and based on measurements, was told that I was actually 11week1day so couldn't do Down syndrome test, as baby has to measure 4.5cm, and I was 4.22cm, I'm going back in two weeks for another scan and to do the test. I saw heartbeat, and baby looked like they were dancing, so I'm chuffed- we told everyone our news despite being 11weeks. Really looking forward to seeing baby again at 13weeks
