growth chart. 90th centile good or bad?

My baby has been on the 90th centile all through, which my midwife seems quite happy with. Now I'm almost at my due date, though I'm now worrying if this means I'm having a big baby. Giving birth is daunting enough as it is! Does anyone know if this is true? x

I measured just above 91st centile all the way through DS was born at 7lb 4oz 1 week late so not necessarily. Don't panic!

I have just been looking at this for my antenatal growth chart. My understanding is that your growth chart is customised and goes off your booking weight and height, this then places the lines in the correct place.

I have had to change my growth chart today as the measurements at the top of the chart did not match my booking weight or height, by a lot!! Also they knocked 17 years off my D.O.B on the chart and gave me a different birth date!!
My own fault for not looking properly ages ago but never mind.

I don't think that just because its the 90th percentile means its a huge baby. My midwife was able to say to me today that even though the chart looked like I was heading for a 5kg baby, there is no way that is happening, she can tell by feeling me and baby. I'm 31+4 BTW.

Could you ask your midwife to give you an estimate or can you convert it from your growth chart if you have one?

From my chart it looks like my baby was about 7lbs 5, or about that, last time i was measured. My height and weight estimates are reasonably accurate, but i didn't actually know that the growth chart was based on height and weight. I think 7lbs plus is still within fairly normal sizing, so fingers crossed he won't be too big when he comes out! x
