Incredibly specific question (boring for others)

As above... would love some input..
I had unprotected sex on day 8 and day 24 of my cycle, my cycle is usually 29 days (within a day either way).

I have a pack of OPKs, I actually found out I was pregnant with my son using them after a miscarriage before, I tested positive for 3 days in a row then googled...

So I'm aware a positive OPK can mean pregnancy. I used one last week, was negative (one pink line), yesterday was negative (one pink line, one faint line) and today (two lines the same shade) which means positive. I am due my period tomorrow.

With a regular 29 day cycle surely there's no way I could be pregnant?? I guess my question is, for those more familiar with OPKs can they test positive for any other reason during period time. Frickin terrified to do an actual pregnancy test. Mental block.

Bumping - no idea re opks but day 8 + 5 days (the longest sperm are supposed to be able to survive) means it doesn't seem totally impossible if you ovulated slightly early. Unlikely though. Get a pregnancy test? You've got to know for sure either way.

OPK's can be near positive just before your period is due to arrive, as you have a second LH surge at that time.

So you might or might not be pregnant, the only way to find out right now is to do a pregnancy test. But you could also wait to see if your period arrives when it should too.

As to could you be pregnant, if you had unprotected sex, then yes theoretically you could, as although you have a regular cycle normally, it is possible to ovulate early or late in a cycle occasionally. You had sex on day 8 the sperm can survive up to 7 days, so if you ovulated on day 15 then it is still possible. With a 29 day usual cycle, day 15 would be a possible ovulation day for you still, if you have a 14 day normal luteal phase.

Most likely you are not pregnant, but it is not outside the realms of possibility. Most likely you are just getting a normal LH surge before your period arrives. Hope you get the answer you want soon.

Thanks. I used to read these 'am I or aren't I' threads and roll my eyes and think just do a test but I'm frozen! I didn't know there was a LH surge before period, that's obviously what it is. Had I known that I wouldn't have posted. Mind at rest!

Yeah I always get positive opks right before my period

Sp1rals · 08/07/2014 22:01

Actually sorry, follow up question, assuming its period related how long would the surge last and the OPKs continue testing positive? A day or 2?

Ummm... you're talking about a pregnancy test not an ovulation test right? If you're testing using an ovulation stick... buy a pregnancy test. That's the clearest way to tell: a pregnancy test will not surge, it will just show you a yes/know and put your mind at rest.

If it is a pregnancy test, then yes you may very well be pregnant. Far more likely than it being a surge in fact.
Sperm can survive for quite a while inside the human body - so if you had intercourse on day 8 and ovulated a little early (say day 11 or so) then yes you could be pregnant.
I have a regular cycle and have got pregnant by ovulating later than bang on the 12-14 day window. But my cycle was the same length.

Sp1rals - just go do a pregnancy test, continuing to use opks is not going to help you find out anything!

apparently i shouldnt be pregnant as we had unprotected sex on day 6 and that day only but im 34 weeks pregnant so its possible
