Hi.

I'm due 9th Aug.

What would you suggest I dress baby in when bringing him/her home from the hospital? Obviously vest and babygro. Will he need a cardi as well? And blanket? And hat? And socks? I guess not if it's warm. I was just worried as he's been cocooned in my nice warm womb all this time and might feel the cold.
The whole clothing thing is confusing me anyway. For example, if it's warm out and you're going for a walk with baby in the pram, do they need a blanket? I've realised I'm only thinking as far ahead as Summer, but my LO will still be tiny when Winter hits so I should be planning ahead really.

Thank you :-)

1 layer more than you is a good rule of thumb.

Good luck! I'm due 16th Aug Grin

You can get little pramsuits for when you're walking the baby which are warm but not too heavy like a snowsuit. These can be worn over regular outfit.
Blankets make great layers so I always had one or two incase temperature drops.
Cardigans again make great layers.
My dd born may only wore a hat when it was winter.
A layer more than yourself generally works and test their temp by feeling their chest or back. Their hands and feet can feel freezing even if they're toasty warm!
Just be aware babies can't control their temp very well so just keep checking if you go from outside to indoors and back again.

Polarn O Pyret for a unisex sun hat.

I'm so confused by clothing too... I can't work out why all of these cute little baby vests have such adorable patterns on them if actually I then need to out another layer on top. Or do I put a layer underneath them? So confusing!

GingerRodgers · 07/07/2014 19:36

Mssleepy, I know what you mean! At newborn it doesn't really matter as you can't tend to see through the top layer but from about 9 months I got plain pink or white ones that didn't show underneath as she was in 'proper' clothes by then.
In the summer they will probably wear just a vest on hot days.

coffeetofunction · 07/07/2014 19:37

Thanks stargirl... Had a look but none of them are really unisex sun hats Hmm

I was wondering that too Ms Sleepy! I've got these gorgeous short sleeved vests with little puppies and things on and no-one will ever see them! Ah well.

Good luck to you too Stargirl. I'm in the middle of packing my hospital bags, trying not to go too overboard. Baby's bag is pretty much done, I washed all his/her little clothes over the weekend, they just look too cute hanging on the maiden. It's finally starting to feel more real.

I'll find me some pram suits.

Thanks everyone :-)
