I'm 34+4 weeks pregnant and the midwife said this morning that I'm 3 fifths engaged. Is this normal with 6 weeks to go?

Yes it can be. It's possible to be fully engaged for weeks/months before the big event.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 02/07/2014 18:43

Yep! I was 3/5 engaged at 34 & 38 weeks. 2/5 engaged at 40 and now 41 weeks and no sign of anything happening.... Sigh.... Hmm

Boudica1990 · 02/07/2014 18:43

Im 34+3 and am fully engaged :( it's so uncomfortable and heavy in my pelvis. I was told it's fine, he may slip in and out for a couple of weeks.

startwig1982 · 02/07/2014 18:57

Oh good. Although I was thinking that maybe it'd come early and I wouldn't have to keep enduring the heat!

I was 3/5 engaged from 32 weeks and now the little sod is only 1/5 engaged at 37+4. I think hes playing games :-)

gamerchick · 02/07/2014 19:28

It's been a while since I had babies but I'm pretty sure that 1/5 engaged is more engaged than 3/5ths. Don't they gauge it on how much head they can feel? So 5/5ths means not engaged at all.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 02/07/2014 20:42

Ooh me too! I'm 3/5 engaged and 34 weeks. The mw did say it doesn't mean baby will come early though.

SouthDerbyshireMamma · 02/07/2014 22:19

It depends on how your NHS trust write it in your notes however I checked with my midwife and he is definitely less engaged now gamerchick. They could feel 2/5 of the head free originally but now they can feel 4/5's free. My bump reflects this as its also higher.

I was 3/5ths engaged for about 6 weeks. I was two weeks overdue...

Fully engaged from 31 weeks, 3cm dilated from 40 weeks.... He didn't appear until we forced him out at 41+6!

weebairn · 03/07/2014 07:12

Fully engaged from 34 weeks last time, baby born 40+5. Pelvis was quite uncomfortable for the last few weeks. On the flip side, she was far enough down that I didn't have bad breathlessness or heartburn!

MrsBungle · 03/07/2014 07:14

I was 3/5 engaged at 32 weeks. Dd was born at 41+1
