TMI: what was your 3rd trimester discharge like?

I have phoned my MW about this, but being a bit paranoid. She doesn't think I have any leaks or infections... but you know when you can't ask real life people if something is normal ... that! Grin

I am getting a bit more mucus than before (though a pantliner copes fine whole work day) - it is clear but thicker/tackier than water for sure (it sits on tissue and glistens, it doesn't just soak in like water/wee). No bad smell (even made DH smell it ewwww) or sweet smell or sperm smell which I understand are causes for concern. For some reason the fact it's clear not cream is making me paranoid!

For those of you who are happy to "TMI" what is you/was your 3rd trimester discharge like and did it differ from before?

I'm 38 weeks and have the same. It's yukky isn't it? I must admit I have rushed to the loo a few times to make sure it's not my mucus plug iv lost! My midwife said it's all normal when I saw her on Monday and she isn't concerned so aslong as your midwife is happy there I wouldn't worry :)

Mine is less watery now at 31+2, but I'm still wearing pantyliners and changing them day and night because I'm paranoid about the amount! I also have a morning shower and a bedtime shower, but that's mainly because I'm hot all the time.

squizita · 02/07/2014 11:46

Phew. Yup thought it might be the heat.

I have a friend who's 1st was premi, she told me her birth story - started with 'watery stuff' hence I think my hormones are making me paranoid! Blush

OMG! I've just googled mucus plug! Blurgh.

squizita I had lots more discharge in the 3rd trimester it went from creamy to really watery I went in to check it wasn't my waters at around 35/36 weeks I think it's totally normal. I did end up going in to labour at 37+5 and when the doc scanned me he said there wasn't a lot of fluid and he thought my hind waters had been trickling, I think that had only been happening for 5 days prior though (I still thought it was discharge). If you are really concerned if you go to pau they will do an examination to check for you.

I've noticed a change too squizita. A lot more noticeable on the ole underwear and panty liners defo helping. Scenic I haven't googled mucas plug yet and not sure I want to now but your post made me chuckle!

Mine changed a lot near the end and i was constantly calling mw any time i felt concerned. If you are unsure just keep in touch with your mw, they are there to help and reassure you.
Not sure if its the same for everyone but for me i had no doubt when i lost my plug. Like a big big lump of snotty jelly. Very very thick almost solid lump.
Next day i went into labour!

squizita · 03/07/2014 09:05

I'm only 29 weeks. I've worn a pad, as the MW advised, and checked. There isn't much on the pad and it's not 'water' but clear mucus (but not solid like a plug) so I am not too worried. None of the danger smells either.

Interestingly my knickers were a little damp right underneath the pad (where moisture would have been caught in the pad) so grossly, I think some of the sensation of damp I had was sweat from my massive thighs and bum!!

squizita you talk about 'danger smells' what are they and what can they mean as sometime my discharge isn't clear and doesn't always smell great.....sorry I know tmi but this thread now has me a little concerned....

Teddybear33 · 04/07/2014 23:28

Sorry it's not always clear that should say

squizita · 05/07/2014 17:56

Most discharge won't be clear: hence I was concerned mine was! Mostly it tends to be cream or off white.

In terms of smell, a bad odour can suggest thrush or a urine infection which your Dr can prescribe you something for.
If it smells of semen or a sweet smell and is very watery and clear, it could be your waters leaking (though this is very rare).
