Grrr, London is so HOT

Trying to escape the heat today (and tomorrow, which will apparently be the hottest day of the year) and berating myself for not living by the sea. What I would give for a sea breeze right now! Instead I have warm, urban gusts. Just nipping off to the local shop for some lemonade and have ice chilling in the fridge.

Any other hot pregnant Londoners around? How are you staying cool?

Yep!

Not much I can do to stay cool at work. Just being sweaty LOL.

I'm mostly living indoors, having a drafty house has it's benefits! Tomorrow I will mostly have my feet in the paddling pool

rockstars12 · 02/07/2014 11:58

Eek. Tomorrow is first day back at work after few weeks off, not looking forward to it. I've survived at home by having windows open and barely wearing anything.

Missingcaffeine · 02/07/2014 21:36

I have found some lovely cool pregnancy dresses. My favourite is from mothercare, but strangely enough it's not on their website so I can't paste a link.
I've also developed a thing for ice cold milkshakes which luckily can be bought very close to my work.
On really hot days, I won't go on the tube in the morning, as I worry I will pass out, even though I always get a seat. I take a longer trip in by car and leave really early, or I just go in a bit late after rush hour. I have a huge bottle of water with me all the time too.

Xcountry · 02/07/2014 21:40

come up to Scotland and swap with me!!! its pissing down, blowing a gale and I have to go chop wood to make a flippin fire - IN JULY FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!!

BeccaBrkr7 · 02/07/2014 21:41

I live right by the sea and there's still no breeze!! Boiling hot!! Shock

Lalalax3 · 02/07/2014 21:52

I'm on sick leave with HG but the tube in the mornings nearly finished me off on many occasions (I don't have a car). I don't know how other pregnant women do it!

I'm an ex-Londoner currently in NYC and I never thought I'd say it but I miss London weather. Today is 32 Celsius but feels like 37 due to the humidity. Going down to 24 overnight.

I'm melting....but at least the subway is air-conditioned (not the platforms though - you feel like you're descending into the bowels of hell!!!)

Shakshuka · 02/07/2014 22:08

oooh, no, I stand corrected. That was for where I live, not in Manhattan where I work. In Manhattan it's 33 and feels like 41 Shock

I'm dreading going home!

Mummymidwife87 · 03/07/2014 02:24

I'm hot in London. 41/40 and hot!
Just keep well hydrated

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 03/07/2014 02:31

Shakshuka - another one missing London here. I'm in DC and this afternoon, it was over 100F according to the car temp gauge. I was PG here last summer - it was brutal!

Missingcaffeine · 03/07/2014 07:00

The tube is the worst. Think it's lack of oxygen. I always get a seat but I've still had to get off en route to destination as I've felt like I'm going to pass out. Fine the rest of the time and above ground! Strange. Taken to buses on days like these, but buses seem to take forever and aren't much better.

Miriama · 03/07/2014 07:08

I feel your pain, luckily I live near Shooters hill so the evening walk with the dogs is usually nice and breezy way up there. I'm 30 weeks and the heat on my daily commute to central London is killing me. I'm just finding myself exhausted at the end of each day. A cool shower when I get in and before bed is helping a little. At work I have a super size fan directly on my face which helps a bit! Roll on Maternity leave!

LightHouser · 03/07/2014 07:16

I am by the sea in Ireland and it was blowing a gale yesterday, but has generally been sunny and breezy. Anyway, I'm not saying that to show off, sorry! I'm in London next week and I hadn't thought it would be so bad so I appreciate the warning thanks! I'll be taking water everywhere I go I think :-)

moggle · 03/07/2014 09:30

I really sympathise. I moved jobs out of London about a year ago and now 20wks pg I am so so glad of it. I didn't used to have to go on the tube, just train and then walk but the train wasn't air conditioned.
Yesterday I came into London after work so at rush hour and it was awful. So many people and I felt very vulnerable with the crowds pushing - I've totally lost my London 'shell'!! I walked from Waterloo to Leics square - anything to avoid taking the tube - and was knackered with sore feet after. Ah well. Hope it cools down again soon for you all.

Mrsgrumble · 03/07/2014 09:32

Also very cool and breezy here. Raining a bit, but I am actually relieved. I was also pregnant this time last year and the heatwave nearly killed me

splendide · 03/07/2014 09:33

I am dying of hot in the mornings on the train! My office is OKish, I have a fan but outside is gross.
