Bicornuate uterus - heavy bleeding

Hi everyone,

I have recently been diagnosed with this - I'm currently 9 weeks but have had really heavy bleeding on and off since 6 weeks (twice i was convinced it was a miscarriage only to find out there was a heartbeat when I was scanned).

Just wondering if anyone else is going through this at the moment or has done so in the past?

It's a mentally exhausting experience as the hospital don't seem to know exactly where the bleeding is coming from and can't give me any indication if/when it will stop. Reading other's past experiences on forums, it seems like it's something that might go on throughout the pregnancy...:-(

I have a 2 yr old son and had severe bleeding with him at 27 weeks - but I hadn't been diagnosed with this condition at that point so the hospital were mystified by the cause. I think i prefered being in blissful ignorance!

x

Ugh I’m so sorry your medical providers aren’t helpful. If we’re being honest neither are mine. They measured my divide 2 weeks ago and I keep asking what the measurement is but no one can seem to tell me. The hospital also told me I am high risk but the OBGYN hasn’t done anything about it. It’s been a stressful pregnant so far to say the least

That's just awful.

There's just so much little information on it apart from Google which is all bad news

Hello, I am from Nepal and I joined this group with the hope of support from all the ladies who have bicornuate pregnancy and learning from each of you people's experiences. I am 15+ weeks pregnant with a baby on my left horn. I have been experiencing light bleeding/spotting for 5 weeks. After that, I had another heavy spotting on 1st October. Now again I had bled that soaked hospital pad. The USG report shows the baby is fine with the heartbeat. But still, it worries when fresh blood comes through your vagina. I am obese with hypothyroid so I had been careful with my pregnancy. Please help me

Sorry to jump on an old post. I have a bicornuate uterus and am currently 12 weeks pregnant I’ve had dark brown bleeding for the past 2 days does anyone have a positive they can share? I’ve lost my bump and I feel less sick is this a sure sign I’ve miscarried

Everything is going well. Turns out I have blood clots on the right hand side of the uterus. The bloating has gone due to the baby using the placenta now.

I have to say I am so grateful for this forum/post!
I’m 32 and have known since my early 20’s I have a biocornuate uterus. I found out about 2 weeks ago I’m pregnant. I was lightly spotting (barely pink) about 4 days the first week. Sunday I had much more spotting and darker. I went to the ER. They confirmed pregnancy and 5 weeks 1 day. They told me that there was a large subchronic hematoma behind the placenta and a hemorrhagic cyst. They were treating it as a “threatened abortion.” 4 days later and I still feel baby. But I’m bleeding more tonight. No cramps or anything. I’m awaiting Medicaid so I can see my doctor. These have been a VERY stressful couple of weeks.
The sonographer at the ER told me what everyone here was saying that one side doesn’t register. But baby is on the right side and they are saying bleeding is on the right side. As my left has basically been closed until I was 24. It’s always been useless. I’m curious if either way this is the abnormality and it doesn’t matter what side is pregnant?

I was never prepared for this. Praying for everyone’s safe deliveries! 🖤

Hello,
I have a bicornuate uterus and I am currently 11 weeks pregnant.
I started to bleed alongside having cramping at 9 weeks pregnant. We thought we had lost the baby. I was examined at my local hospital and then had to wait 5 days until I had a scan to find out if baby was okay. Even though they knew my pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy.
Thankfully baby was happily growing and developing in my left horn, whilst the right side was bleeding. I, like others on here, was told that the right side might not recognise that there is a baby on the left side.
I was told what to look out for if I bleed again, to know from this if it is a ‘normal’ bleed or a miscarriage.
I have started to bleed again today, but I am staying hopeful that continues how it is and goes away quickly.

Was reassuring to read that others with the condition have gone through the same as myself.

I have a bicornuate uterus and was petrified of a severely prem birth. I had no bleeding, but a friend did throughout pg and had healthy twins.

DS had to be dragged out at 42 weeks weighing ten pounds..
Best of luck, OP.

Hi there. As I’m sure you read my previous comment I had the exact same issue with my first pregnancy last year. Started at 9 weeks and it was on and off until I think week 12 or 13. My baby is perfectly healthy now, he was born in February at 36 weeks! We had a c section for him as he was breech because there was no room for him to flip. It was a very calming experience and I was glad my delivery went that way. Good luck to you and congrats!

After an emotional day this thread has helped give me a bit more hope.

I'm about 7/8 weeks pregnant and have had light spotting with light pink blood for 2 days, which has since turned into heavy bleeding now with red blood and I need a pad. I have cramping too, which feels like a moderate pain.

Hospital did an abdominal ultrasound and baby was still there but he couldn't say if there was or wasn't a heartbeat. Apparently it was too small. So now it's a waiting game..

Dr Google indicates a miscarriage though I do have a double uterus so who knows?

It seems a lot of people have the same experience with the other uterus bleeding. I wonder if anyone had this experience but with cramps too?

Best of luck to everyone in a similar situation x

I am so glad I found this post also, I have a BU and have had two previous losses but now pregnant again so my anxiety when I started bleeding this week was through the roof. I have been trying to focus on having a BU and the fact I may have period like bleeding, Plus all my pregnancy tests are still getting darker so remaining hopeful! This thread has helped me so much so shout out to all my BU mamas out there!

My one bit of advice to anyone reading this - do not google!
