Using the contraceptive pill after giving birth?

Hello. Just a quick one. Our first baby is due Sept and whilst I appreciate that the need for contraception will inevitably be the last thing on our mind for the first few weeks after giving birth (!), eventually obviously it's something we would have to go back to and I'd like to go back on the pill. However does anyone know if you can take microgynon and breastfeed? Or do you have to take a different pill / change to a different method of contraception completely? x

Dont do what I did at the post birth meet up of our antenatal class. the midwife said, now then, about contraception - and I laughed. Everyone looked at me. Oh you were being serious? Felt like such an idiot!

The most important thing to remember is that you will ovulate before you get your first period, so you can be fertile nad not know it, so if you are shagging, you DO need contraception.

If you are breastfeeding then you need to take a progesterone only pill such as cerazette, not a combined pill. But there are plenty of other options you can use too such as the mirena coil. Ask your midwife or make an appointment with family planning.

Okay thanks. Will speak to GP after the birth about going on cerazette. xxx
