First trimester anaemia

Hello there.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have been prescribed iron supplements from 8 weeks for anaemia (not sure how anaemic as I wasn't given the full results).

Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this from the first trimester? If so, how have you dealt with it and when can I expect to start feeling a bit better?

I am still feeling awful: faint, sick, dizzy, exhausted and finding it difficult to concentrate- which I know are all general pregnancy symptoms anyway!

Thanks xx

I have been anaemic since I was a teenager but controlled with iron. Now I feel like I've not been taking iron tablets although I am so midwife said to take an extra dose. Normally takes a few days to take effect. Don't take iron tablets within half an hour of tea or coffee (if you are still drinking this). Vitamin C helps absorb iron.

I am feeling exactly the same as you! First time I thought I actually was going to throw up on the bus to work this morning -had to get off and walk for a bit before getting on another bus.

Thanks, JennyBlueWren! Nice to know I'm not alone. May I ask how pregnant are you?

I'm sorry, I haven't got any experience of it, however Have they warned you that iron tablets bung you up? The first sign of missing a bowel movement that you would normally expect, consider taking something for it, and alter your diet to mega high fibre (if you can manage it at this stage in the first trimester) immediately. X

Thanks for the tip, TheScenicRoute, luckily I have managed to remain unbunged so far!
