Hi all. I have an early scan next week when I will be 6+4/5/6 (depending on whether I'm dated by ovulation or lmp)
I'm having it as a reassurance after 3 mc. I've never had a heartbeat, they've never got that far.
Am I likely to see a heartbeat by that point? I'm worrying I won't see anything!

I think that might still be a bit early - usually 7-8 weeks is when you see the heartbeat but you might be able to see one. Really hoping everything is ok for you this time.

I was told that they reliably see a heartbeat from seven weeks, so I booked mine for 7+0. At just two days before that I would guess you've a very, very good chance.

I had my first reassurance scan after several mc's at 6+4 and we saw the heartbeat which I thought was amazing as it's only been working for a few days :-) To be honest it looked ring shaped, like a bubble with a heartbeat!

Hi, thanks. They suggested between 1st and 5th July because they wanted me to be 7 weeks, but I'm not 7 week til 5th which is odd. However, I'm off on holiday the following Tuesday (scan Friday) so it works out well time wise.
They said they can usually see one at 6 weeks but leave it til 7 just to be sure. Praying for a good result!

Thanks Meirasa! That's brilliant. If we see one I think I'm gonna cry my eyes out

I had a 6 week scan with both and saw a heartbeat both times. Chances are that if you are at least 6 weeks, you will see a heartbeat. Thing is, with the date of ovulation not always known and different times for the egg to move down the fallopian tube and implant, it's easy to be a few days out and just those few days can really make all the difference. If you don't see a heartbeat, it doesn't mean you won't. Good luck!

Thank you! I know I ovulated on the 1st and I got my bfp at 9dpo so I am assuming I implanted early! I'm hopeful we will see it if it's there x

I had a scan at 6 weeks (+2-4 days, can't remember exactly sorry) and I saw the heart beat. But there wasn't much else to see to be honest and I personally didn't find it very reassuring, as the 12 week scan is so much more detailed in comparison. So be prepared for this and good luck :) Flowers

For now a heartbeat will be enough til I get another scan. I've never got that far before so it will feel like a milestone!

I had a scan last week at 6+5 and saw the heartbeat, although as it was a transabdominal US it wasn't as clear. Still could make out the little flicker. I was so worried at first about not seeing it but honestly it can be too early to show up so if you don't see it yet, don't worry too much :) x

Seasalt I had mine and they dated me at 6+1 I saw a heartbeat mine also looked like a ring!!

mylittlemonkey · 28/06/2014 22:05

I have had a number of early scans due to previous mc's and have seen heart beat at 6.5 weeks. However, I do recall the nurses telling me that sometimes it takes until 7 weeks or that you can be slightly out on your dates and so be a bit to early too see a heart beat.

I really hope you do see one, I remember very clearly crying with relief when I saw one after two previous mc's. It is such an anxious time and I will have everything crossed for you.

fortifiedwithtea · 28/06/2014 22:21

Seasalt I had a mc followed by an ectopic pg. After that I was scanned to see any pg landed in the right place.

DD1 1st scan 6 wks +? days. Can't remember exactly, she's nearly 16 yo now. I saw a heartbeat. It just looks like a tiny flashing light.

DD2 scanned at under 6 weeks. Which I found distressing. Too early for a proper heartbeat but I knew she was alive. Sonographer pointed out a blob of cells quivering and that was her.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Flowers

I had an internal scan last week at what I thought was 6+1. Could only see a gestational sav and yolk sac. No fetal pole or heartbeat. I am really upset but the sonographer didn't seem concerned, said I was measuring around 5-51/2 weeks. I'm trying mot to worry as the difference is a matter of days. I'm sure when I ovulated and tested positive at 12dpo. Being scanned again in 10 days. So, what I'm trying to saying is it is possible you won't see it but a few days can make a lot of difference.

I hope it all goes well.

VJONES1985 · 06/07/2014 17:19

It is possible to see a hb at six weeks but not always, so try not to worry too much if not. Good luck.

VJONES1985 · 06/07/2014 17:19

Oh, just seen the update. Good news!
