I haven't packed myself one yet, but apparently DH did his last night. It contains, amongst other things, an umbrella. When I queried why he regarded this as an essential item - was he perhaps expecting our son's first action after birth to be a rain dance? - he explained it was in case it was raining when we had to leave for the hospital:

Me: "er, where are we walking to, in this hypothetical rain?"
Him: "to the train station"
Me: "you expect me to get the train to hospital when I'm in labour?"
Him: ".....that's probably not a good idea is it?"

He doesn't even have first-time fatherhood as an excuse, our DD is two! Grin

We didn't pack DH anything and he ended up sleeping on the floor covered in a towel. We did; however, take 4 shopping bags full of food from the supermarket (and we are and drank everything in the 4 days I was there).

We also took an iPod and docking station. This was loaded with lovely classical music but DH had accidentally put the music to The Omen on there. Every time he heard the opening bars of it he'd sprint across the room to skip to the next track!

My OH packed a book - Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, if I remember rightly -, his camera, a set of 'First Size' baby clothes he just bought from ASDA (baby was coming earlier than expected) and his Gameboy Colour.

He forgot clean pants, clean clothes, clean anything (thankfully we only live 5 mins from the hospital). He also forgot to bring snacks for himself so I had to share my Welsh cakes and Sunny D with him.

My DH bought every book about babies and fatherhood he could find when I was pregnant but never got around to reading them (story of his life). So he brought them all with him to the hospital - a big carrier bag filled with books. Still didn't read them.
