Hi everyone,

Please could someone give me some reassurance. I am about 5 weeks pregnant- as you can imagine, I have been really careful about what I eat etc. anyway, I have just discovered that my oh served up chicken and dips as part of tea last night (sour cream etc) that he bought and then left in the car for three hours, then refrigerated for about an hour when he got in.

I am now panicking that I may get food poisoning- especially listeria which I know can be dangerous.

I am so upset and angry with him when I am being so careful xx

Try not to panic. It will probably be fine. If u get food poisoning type symptoms speak to your Dr. I swear that men do stuff like this so that we'll insist that we do the supermarket shop...are they all really this daft?!
I spent much of my early pregnancy being worried and paranoid then got to the point where i decided that i needed to chill out about it all..people in other countries for example eat cheeses which we're told to avoid. So try not to worry and if u do get ill (which hopefully u won't) then speak to the doc.

I can completely understand where you're coming from. My other half failed to wash a red cabbage the other day before making coleslaw (I was about 33 weeks). Also a big no-no for listeriosis. I was really annoyed at him (and myself, as I watched him put the damn thing straight from the fridge into the food processor).

But do try not to worry. In 2011 there were only 27 cases of listeriosis in pregnant women (out of 147 altogether). It is very, very rare.

Even if you were unlucky enough to get a stomach bug of some kind, it's horrid and inconvenient, even more so when pregnant, but the baby is usually fine - it's you that gets the symptoms! My sis and I both got stomach bugs earlier this year, which laid us low for a couple of days, but the babies carried on kicking... which was even more horrid. Sad

Sure you will be fine.
Try not to get too mad, its a learning curve for him too

You'll be fine. If you were going to be sick, it would have happened by now. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much. By all means be careful with what you eat but don't stress about every little thing - or you'll be constantly panicking.
Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

Thank you so much for replying everyone- you have put my mind at rest a bit. I have always been a worrier- not sure how I am going to get through 9 months when I am worrying this much at 5 weeks! Xx

Give it a few weeks, if you're anything like me you'll get bored of the worrying and will be eating raw cake mix and sushi with gay abandon!

Lol mrsgembles - that really made me laugh. Thanks :) xx

I think there are about 20 cases a year, which tend to be in big clusters (i.e. hotel/hospital) in the whole UK per year. Of these only 1 or 2 would be pregnant women and on top of that not all of them would have any pregnancy issues as a result. So it really is very rare!!

I am sure if it tasted OK and was properly cooked all is well. :)
