Brown spotting

Hiya

I'm sure I've seen a similar post but wanted some advice.
I think I'm 9 weeks. mw thinks I'm 12. today I had brown spotting so mw has asked to see me tomorrow to see if she can find a heartbeat as a scan would mean waiting longer. my question is how likely is it that she'll hear a heartbeat at potentially 9+1 and is the spotting and mild cramping anything I should be panicking about?

I don't know about an actual heartbeat, but the gp could hear some 'whooshing' on the heartbeat monitor at 8 weeks which indicated that the pregnancy was there, so the same would be possible at 9+1.

I had brown discharge at 6 weeks for about 10 days and again at 10 weeks for about 4 days. I was told this was due to hormonal changes and the time to worry was if the blood was red and I was in severe pain.

I was told to rest and not lift anything. DD is 18yo now so my advice might be a bit out of date, and I wasn't offered a scan to investigate my spotting.

Hope that helps a little.

Thank you Fanta I have a medical condition which is maybe why she was keen to have a listen. I know I'm not the first lady to have had spotting it's just such a worry. hopefully all will be ok. having some soup and watching the tennis to try and chill a bit :)

It is a horrible worry to have - I used to dread going to the loo in case it had got worse. It is very common apparently. I do hope you can have your mind put at rest tomorrow and can get some rest tonight Smile

Hi op, I am 12 weeks pregnant and had spotting for about 10 days very early on in the pregnancy and then pretty much every day for 3 weeks from around week 7. I had a scan at 10 weeks and baby was absolutely fine. I've has lots of stomach ache throughout too.

I would say try not to worry but I know how difficult that is. I still check every time I go to the loo!

Congratulations and good luck for the next few weeks xx

I am ten weeks and have had brown spotting for the past few days. I had a scan today which showed all was well. I also had a proper red bleed just before 9 weeks and scan showed that was ok too.

It is horrible and scary but I think some of us are just prone to it and it doesn't have to mean something bad.

Get a scan if you can - pay and go private if you have to- going private means you could probably get a scan tomorrow. It's worth it.

I had spotting with my last ds all through the first trimester. Turned put to be caused by hormonal changes to the cervix which is apparently quite common and nothing to worry about. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and heard a heart beat on Doppler at 9 weeks (took ten mins or so to find it). It is possible that you will hear a heart beat this early but sometimes it's not possible until 12 weeks or more. Good luck.
