Pregnant again after miscarriage

I had a missed miscarriage last year and have just found out I'm pregnant again (approx 4-5weeks). I'm absolutely petrified the same thing will happen again. Can I insist on an early viability scan? And at what point is a heartbeat likely to be detected?

It depends on area, but your risk isn't more than any other woman so they might not be able to.
Private scans are easy to get.

Best time is 7 weeks or more... You're likely to see a HB which reassures! Congrats!

I had a m/c last year at 6 wks then fell pregnant the following month. Unfortunately early miscarriages are so common that they don't tend to see you as any higher risk because of it. I was nervous but didn't get a scan and DH and I decided that 'what will be will be'. I'm now 32 wks with a very active baby inside me and a problem free pregnancy the whole way through. The odds are stacked for you this time, try to stay calm and relaxed:-)

Hi Bondy, firstly congrats on your bfp! It's a little terrifying being back here isn't it! I had my mc on my 6 wk mark. I'll be 6 weeks this Thursday. I'm going for a private scan at 7. 4, as I'm not 100% sure of my dates & want to make sure that I'm giving it enough time.
Let's hope for strong sticky beans y'all!

Hi Op, I think my mc last year was a blighted ovum. I put off my first scan for as long as possible this time because I couldn't face seeing an empty screen again, so when they said they couldn't book me in until 15 weeks I was pleased in a way because it meant I'd be further on than when I lost the last one and they'd have more chance of seeing something. I've never been so anxious in my life and I'm still nervous now at 25+4 but it does get better. Good luck op!

I had a healthy baby son last year following a miscarriage a few months earlier. It's is worrying, you'll worry the whole way though, once you've got through the 12 week scan you'll worry about the 20 week scan, then you'll worry if baby seems to have a quieter kicking day. It is scary.
I remember the mid wife saying to me though they could give you a scan every day and it wouldn't change the outcome, it's not like they can do anything in those first 12 weeks to intervene if things aren't right.
I'm sure this time will be fine though. Fingers crossed for you.

I had an absorbed miscarriage late last year. I fell pregnant again in March. And I was terrified! I went for a private scan at 6.5 weeks, and another scan at the hospital at 7.2 weeks. Our hospital has an early pregnancy clinic and I was told to contact them once I thought I was around 6 weeks (as it was there I discovered I miscarried lat time).
I ended up with the private scan, as my dp was off on that day, but wasn't sure if he could get the day off for the hospital scan. It was £50 for a 15 minute scan, but it was worth it!
I'm now 14.4 weeks, and I'm booked in for another private scan in 2 weeks to find out the gender :) On the 12 week scan, the sonographer said the baby is doing fine :)
Its a scary time, but I personally needed to know that my baby was alive.

Congratulations bondy83!

I'm in a similar situation, but I'm 4 weeks preggers today after an MMC in April. The day of my EPRC, after I was released to go home, my local hospital's EPAU told me to call and book my 6 week viability scan once I was pregnant again. They said the scan would be automatically provided by the hospital at 6 weeks because of my MMC and subsequent EPRC in April.

If you can't do this, can you book in for a private scan? I'm not a patient person, and in my home country a 6 week scan is the norm, so I personally wouldn't want to wait. The unknown would kill me.

Wishing you a very sticky and healthy pregnancy!

Congratulations Bondy! I had an mmc last July, picked up at 8 weeks on an early scan.

I'm now 16 weeks pregnant, and I found the first few weeks really stressful as I was convinced it would happen again. I went to see my gp and he referred me for an early scan at 7+4 due to anxiety. I think I was pretty lucky to get this, and realistically it only reassured me for about 48hrs before I started worrying again!

The chances are that this baby will be fine, I know it won't stop you worrying though. Maybe a private scan at 8 weeks? If you see an hb at that point the risk of mc is very small.

Good luck.
