Use of ThermaCare in pregnancy for lower back pain - is it safe?

Hi,
I've been having really bad muscular lower back pain (it's a historical issue with me unfortunately). Has anyone used ThermaCare or any similar non-medicated 'on skin' heat patches for backache in pregnancy? There is nothing on the packaging to say it can't be used while pregnant, and the pharmacist didn't seem to think it would be a problem, but I'd just be interested to hear any other views or experiences. I'm nearly 22 weeks pregnant btw.
Many thanks

I remember wanting to use the type for period pains while I was expecting due to lower & back pain. BUT the packaging told me not to use it while pregnant.
Not sure if this has changed as it was when they were 1st out and maybe more research has been done.

If the pharmacist was ok then I wouldn't see there being a problem. Is there a helpline you can call for the manufacturers..? Just to be reasurred..

I've just spoken to a nurse from NHS Direct (felt a bit silly making a Dr's appointment!) She recommended the non-medicinal heat patches, some paracetamol and a warm bath - and I'm also going to get a hot water bottle.
The heat does really seem to help, and seeing as I can't take any stronger drugs, this is the best plan of attack I can think of!
