was my test positive?!

I know this sounds a bit daft but I did a pg test last night, fairly early in my extremely irregular cycle (if you can call it a cycle) and it came out with the control line and a very faint second line - really faint but definitely there. Then I did one this morning as that one wasn't very convincing and the one this am (with an x for pg) looked pretty much negative - a sort of shadow instead of a line. What's going on?! Can you get false positives or only false negatives?

Sounds positive to me, if you had a line there and did it in the right time (false positives can occur after time), and then a different type had a shadow, then it prob has picked up the hormone. A negative doesn't have a shadow, just nothing there. I did mine very early and there was only shadow of a line but did one each day until eventually I was convinced! It might be best to wait a few days, but I know I couldn't

Not an expert but the same thing happened to me I ended up doing 9 pregnancy tests before I believed the result!! False positives are very rare(almost unheared of), much more likely you had a false negative, because it is so early maybe the second test was less sensitive or the hormone was more dilute. I recommend clear blue, I found it the easiest to get a clear result. Good luck I have a beautiful 5 month ds. Good Luck olatt x

I had this. Get Clearblue Digital - no mistaking with that one as it says the word!

Xena · 05/09/2006 20:55

I agree cece with my last 2 pgs I used them and they are so much better, as you say no doubt then

hitchcock · 05/09/2006 20:58

im had a pregnacy test that had a slight colour change to it in certain lights couldnt see it at all dp couldnt when i showed him... did 2 more just to certain and yeah it was positive the colour did get stronger as the days passed after 10 pt test i think i was diff preg 8 moths later i had a 8lb10oz girl XXXX good luck

Piffle · 05/09/2006 20:58

shadow could be an evaporation line
what brand of test was it? Some are worse than others

olatt · 05/09/2006 21:03

one was first response, one was, er, clear blue i think, with a cross rather than a line.

OP posts:
olatt · 05/09/2006 21:05

first response had the faint line

you need the digital as this shows the words

pregnant

or

not pregnant

on the screen - no doubt either way... but they are expensive so wait for some morning wee..

olatt · 05/09/2006 21:06

rather embarrassingly i couldn't get the digi one to work last time! think i'm the only person who manages to pee on a stick wrong ...

Piffle · 05/09/2006 21:08

if the line has colour then you're +
The CB can be buggers I took mine out of the case to see my + and then panicked that it was wrong
But it wasn't

cece · 05/09/2006 21:16

pee in a conatiner and then dip it in. Have never even tried to do it was it is in full flow Didn't realise people did!

elliepippamummy · 06/09/2006 08:21

I used FR on all of my pg and had faint neg in the evening used it again in the mornng (use first wee) and got a very strong + so if you can hold out try to do FR in the morning

PS I coul neve get the digital ones to work so you are not the only one!!!

emzickle · 06/09/2006 08:55

the clear blue PG test made me sad... as the word disapears after a while - and I kept having to do more to believe it...

olatt · 07/09/2006 13:19

It was positive! and so was the next one ... and the next one ... ! very exciting! thanks everyone. although not pleasant dealing with lovely 16 month old with tummy bug - projectile vomit while suffering waves of nausea? nice ...
