Went to the midwife with some usual discharge and the doctor said I have cervical erosion.

She said its fairly common in pregnancy but I'm still a bit worried. Has anyone else had this whilst pregnant?

Yes it's very common, I've had it triggered by coming off the pill, getting pregnant - even some days in my cycle.

'Erosion' sounds scary but it's just the very top layer of the skin becoming sensitive and causing discharge or spots of blood. Like a sore patch on your lip or gum. The main body of the cervix which holds the baby in is completely unaffected!

No, it's very common and is not linked to cancer - stay off Google, it has some scary stuff. Erosion is benign and common: though abnormal cells have similar symptoms. I know because they did colcoscopies on me when I came off the pill and had spotting. They discharged me when they decided it was "just" erosion not bad cells.

I have this too which the Doctor told me was due to child birth. It's caused me no problems, sometimes I just need a repeat smear because it causes me to bleed if if my cervix is poked too much! But it's completely benign

See I've never had a smear because I'm 24 and they refused but this is my 2nd pregnancy will defiantly be pushing for one after baby is born.

I had spotting for about a week around 26 weeks when I was pg with DS. Baby was fine, and they could find no cause of the bleeding, and it eventually stopped. One obstetrician said it could be cervical erosion but it was difficult to say, and they weren't worried and baby was fine, so end of story really.

I had some very mild spotting at around 6weeks with DC2. Am now almost 20wks and haven't had any more spotting, but if I did get some, and there were no other issues, I'd guess it was down to the same thing.

Like others say, it's not anything to worry about - despite the grim name!

I am 9 weeks pregnant and I have this. It has caused brown/pink spotting throughout this pregnancy so far. I went to the early pregnancy assessment clinic last week as I was worried and two doctors had a good look and said this was the cause, that it was normal. A scan showed the baby was fine. They took swabs to check if there is anything causing it although I don't have results yet. I think some of us have a more sensitive cervix than others. They said it was quite possible that these sensitive skin cells are bleeding lightly just due to walking around and normal daily activities. Squizita puts it better above.
