Can't stop sleeping on my back

I am 26 wks+ and am having trouble sleeping, I worry about things and become an insomniac, or my 3yr old DD wakes me, or I can only get comfy on my back as it's the only position when I dont get sticky and sweaty because skin is'nt touching other skin. I have a 'V' shaped pillow which helps me get comfy on my side, supporting my bump - as I get a terrible pain if not -
and seperating my knees. But I always wake up with on my back.

I am worried because I know you can block a blood vessel to the baby when on your back and also it stretches your tummy too much - although I am normally comfortable in the position. I've tried to put pillow around me to stop me lying flat on my back but with DH in the bed as well there's no much room.

Any ideas

apparently the advice is to try not to but you can't help yourself roolong over in the night. when you wake up just try and get comfy on your side again. I have also been told that ytou would wake up if a blood vessel starting to get trapped or you would move onto your side in your sleep. I'm no expert but I have heard that, not sure if it's true

Hi again!

I am also 26+ and could just about have written your post word for word. First of all, I agree not to worry too much - if you're not totally flat (ie head and shoulders elevated) that makes a difference. And you are very likely to wake up feeling breathless or dizzy if blood flow is really compromised.

But what I do...is stick a flattish pillow under my bum, sort of under one hip? Its what the hygienist at my dentist's taught me to do - when she's working on pg patients, it just tilts the pelvis enough to deal with any blood flow worries.

HTH...

I've got a body pillow, like the one you're hugging in bed but it's also great for lying against, with my back against it IYSWIM which stops me rolling onto my back. I alternate between having pillow in front and behind!

I have slept on my back through all my pregnacies, never had any problems.

Thanks all - have got up today because worrying about everything. Even though DH had gone to work and I had a whole bed and 6 pillows at my disposal. Am becoming resigned to the fact that sleepless nights are just the way it's gonna go until this bubba is born and in routine - am naivley banking on 8 wks as that's how old DD1 was when she first slept through! 5 months to go

You could get hold of a wedge pillow (mothercare does them) - if your lying on your back it'll tilt you slightly to the side and take the pressure off blood vessels etc.

Sympathies, I remember this stage well & have got it all to come again!

This is last time as going to stop at 2, unless any surpirses come along

Bump also like to help me decided how to sleep, by giving me a good kicking if not happy with how I am lying, and just refuses to stop until I turn over - DD was never so agressive - must be male
