Has anyone else had trouble sleeping? Im nearly 6 weeks pg, but this started to me before I was even due on- and its driving me nuts! I'm WIDE awake around 4am every day- on weekends its bearable, but worse when I have to go to work- sure ppl think I'm an alcoholic with hangover ever day (chance would be a fine thing)....

Hey GK, I'm 6 weeks on thursday and know exactly how you feel. I'm getting really tired, and have been going to bed around 9ish then waking up a stupid o'clock most mornings. I just cant seem to get comfortable which I know is ridiculous at 6 weeks.... I ended up lying on the floor with a quilt wrapped round me last night!!! No suggestions unfortunately, although good to speak to someone who is at the same stage as me!!!

glitterkitty · 05/09/2006 14:14

Oh, tell me about it, I toss & turn loads as well! Thats so weird- lucky my bf is a sound sleeper. Nothing has worked so far for me either...

I'm off to lidl on Monday to get one of the body pillows as metioned in one of the other threads -I feel a bit stupid getting it at 6 weeks but hey if it helps me sleep then I dont care... I sometimes find that rather than lying there thinking about not sleeping which just keeps you more awake, get up have a little stretch, maybe a cup of warm milk with sugar in, empty the bladder then go back to bed. Its much better for you than tossing and turning - the more you stress about not being able to sleep, the more awake you get!!

..it's because you're body is soooo busy !!!! Your blood volume is in the process of increasing by 40% (!!) you're getting an overdose of the hormone called relaxin to prepare for the birth... your heart rate will increase...all this in addition to what is happening with the baby..... although you're only in the very early stages of pregnancy your body is preparing you for the birth even now.......it's why some people faint during early pregnancy !!!!!!

glitterkitty · 05/09/2006 14:21

I havent heard of a body pillow. Do let me know if it works! I have got up & had a tea/hot choc read a few pages of book etc but so far its not helped me any, but its more enterataining than staring into space worrying about every twinge...

Google it... its like a big long pellow that supports your bump and legs.... supposed to be quite good... there is a thread about them somewhere on here... - know what you mean about worrying though, my back is killing - around where my kidneys are... really dont want to take anything though. Have you had a scan yet?

glitterkitty · 05/09/2006 14:39

I found it- on the thread you said. Will have to find my way to Lidl now...

I have had lower back pain too- mainly while sitting at work at desk. I got a back support cushion which sort of helps.

Yeah, funnily enough had an early scan Monday (I'm 6 weeks this Friday) It was clearly visible with flashing heartbeat & everything! It REALLY put my mind at rest. I cried - but then I am a big sack of emotion at the moment...

I think they only sell them for a week from monday but I'm sure you'll be able to get them from other places!!! I'm not sure whether I can wait that long!!! Thats really reasuring to hear... are you 6 weeks from first day of last period? I'm 6 weeks on thursday.. I had a m/c back in June so am really anxious about everything. Hoping to have a private scan in a few weeks, just want to leave it long enough so there is no risk of "oh there is no heartbeat come back next week" cos I went through that the last time and it tore me apart.

I'm another pregnancy insomniac. Happened with dd and is happening again with this pg. Very frustrating as I really need some rest. Body pillow is a good buy, but I've found that getting up and going to the loo when you wake up helps. You may not feel like you want to go, or even feel like getting out of bed (believe me I've spent a good half hour many times forcing myself to get up), but as soon as your bladder is empty it should be easier to drop back off.

glitterkitty · 05/09/2006 14:51

Yes, on Friday I'll be 6 weeks from 1st day of last (29 July). Your a day over me!

Oh, sugar, sorry to hear that, fingers crossed for you this time- gotta say tho you sound just the same symptoms as me and mine's going ok so far.

For me being pg is such an achievement in itself as I was told in June that there was a 5% chance of it happening naturally! Having said that it seems like times going sooo slow- just waiting for that 12 weeks deadline to know the most dangerous bit is over. Cant enjoy it until then really! Maybe the imsommnia is anxiety?

Hi NDP, I'll try that, god, at this stage I'll try anything! I even seduced my bf at 5am this morning. Gotta say that did actually work - was his own fault- he was annoying me by looking comfortable. lol.

Well hopefully we'll both be here to bounce off each other and compare notes for the next 8 months!! Think you are right about the worry though, there is a day that goes by when I dont worry. Every night I say a little prayer for my baby and everyone else that is worrying at the moment. Just cant wait to hear its little heart beat... will breathe a huge sigh of relief then!! To be honest I'm quite happy to have all these horrible symptoms for the next 8 months lomg as everything is ok.

glitterkitty · 05/09/2006 15:04

Hope so! Very hard to focus on work while being tired/ pg so I'm sure I'll be on here a lot!

Yep me too.. certainly makes the day quicker!! Well thats me succumbed (sp) to temptation and booked my scan for next week.. i'll be 7 weeks by then so hopfully it will be ok!!!

2Happy · 05/09/2006 16:20

Yup, another veteran pregnancy insomniac here! It's funny, I'd never heard of it before I got pg, then when I mentioned it lots of people said "oh yes, I had that too". Anyway, I got it with ds, and I had it with this pg too. Am now 20weeks and it's reduced to only being awake for about 2 hours in the middle of the night (unable to get back to sleep after the usual toilet break) but it's better than the previous awake from 2am onwards. I always found MN an interesting diversion overnight, lol!Good luck with this pg, and I hope the insomnia eases

Thalia · 05/09/2006 16:25

Me too ! Have been waking up at odd times during the night since about 6 weeks pregnant. Sometimes I'm wide awake for about 2 hours. I always get the urge for cereal with nice cold milk. Then I got back to bed and sleep late and feel like a zombie when I wake up.....
