Blood glucose test/gestational diabetes - advice please!

Does anyone know if this test is given as standard, or if not why it's given?

I understand it's to test for gestational diabetes, and the NHS website seems to suggest not everyone gets it, only those who might be at risk.

I don't have any risk factors that I know of: I'm not overweight/obese, I don't have any family history of diabetes and I'm not from an ethnic background more susceptible to diabetes.

I did ask the midwife, but she said the request had come from my doctor so she didn't know. I've just moved to a new area and I haven't seen a doctor (although I registered with the practice) so I'm not sure why they would request this!

Any thoughts welcome :)

Some hosptials will offer the mini gtt to everybody at 28 weeks whereas others will just recommend it for those who have risk factors it is not standard everywhere.

In my area its standard at 28 weeks to have it but I do have risk factors but I was fine I did a fasting one 2 days before hospital one and my bloods were 5.9 so knew I was ok

In lots of areas it's pretty much done as standard.

I must admit, I skipped it in my first pregnancy, then bowed to pressure for my second (I am obese) - but wished I'd skipped it because it made me feel so ill (came very close to fainting 3 times, was ushered into a secret comfy chair in the nurses office because me kneeling on the floor leaning on the chair back in front of me trying not to pass out was worrying the other women in the waiting room :D)

Perfect results though, so it seems that feeling ropy during the test is no indication of diabetes
