Red blood nearly 9 weeks pregnant terrified and abroad!

Hi girls,

I'm 9 weeks pg tomorrow and when I went to the bathroom this morning I had red blood when I wiped :( it was proper red too. I think I lost about a tablespoon of blood so obviously I panicked and put a pad on. I've had a bit more spotting since but nothing the same and I've got no pain. I had a scan a week ago that showed a heartbeat and seemed to show all was well :(

Unfortunately I'm currently abroad so I cannot call the epu to get another scan Tuesday!

Does anyone have a similar story to share where it didn't end badly? I've had a miscarriage already and no children yet so I would be devastated if this is going the same way, especially when I'm not even in the country:(

I had early bleeding with all my pg's. My youngest is 4.5months & I bled @ 8 weeks & like u had no pain but I went to a&e to get it checked. They did a scan & everything was fine. It is scary.

Thanks for the reply angel. It's really scary and horrible. I ll have to get a scan when I get home. Glad yours all turned out ok though. It gives me some hope although of course I would have preferred not to have encountered this. I'll just have to pray it's not bad news.

If all was well a week ago it is most likely that all is still well now.
As you are at 9 weeks it's possible that this is just a mini bleed when you "would have" had a period - is your cycle normally around 31/32 days? These can happen throughout pregnancy with no issues.
Obviously it's wise to get to an epu and get a scan as soon as you are back in the UK, just to make sure, but try not to worry until then - worrying and stressing about this isn't good for your baby who is most likely tucked up safe and well in there.

I bled every day for 3 weeks between 6 and a half and 9 and a half weeks. I'm 29 weeks today and baby is still in there, wriggling away. It doesn't have to mean the worst but I know it is very worrying. Seeing a heartbeat is a really good sign.

And yes fish, my cycle is about 32 or do days usually, and I've heard of breakthrough bleeding, but obviously I'm jumping to the worst case scenario!

I had a bleed at that point in both pregnancies amd had healthy babies. If it was just a bit and nothing sknce, plus no cramps then quite possible that all will be well. Hope so. When are you back in the UK?

Does your travel insurance cover any medical stuff?

Could you maybe pop along to a local hospital to put your mind at ease.

I can only imagen what you are feeling right now.

I have had big, big bleeds on all three of my pregnancies. I have two children and one mmc.

I actually bled more on the pregnancies that progressed so there is hope

I had a huge bleed at 9 weeks with my youngest, no pain but lost some huge clots. Turned out to be a haematoma and rest of the pregnancy was fine, beautiful healthy 9 mo here x

Thanks again guys- Barbie- pretty sure the hospital is not an option- I'm on a remote island (holiday booked well before finding out about being pg). I'm back home on Sunday so will ring epu first thing Monday.

It sounds like it's pretty common then- when I look it up it said something about only 1 in 5 women having bleeding but maybe it's more than that.

What a horrible thing for you to be going through especially when you are away. With my first pregnancy I had a big red bleed at nine weeks I stood up and it just gushed and ran down my legs, I was so scared but when I went for a scan a few days later she was fine. I was convinced she had gone as there was so much blood, she's nine now.
Sorry to get personal but have you had sex recently? I had the night before and while they never said that's what caused it I'm sure it had something to do with it!

Hi pregnant- no not had sex so I can't put it down to that unfortunately:( and yes it's pretty rubbish being away and having this! It s like my worst fear come true. I also had to have ivf to conceive this baby so it will be extra devastating if it's all going wrong:(

Bleeding is apparently more common in ivf pregnancies. Not sure why. Mine is also from ivf is I get how worried you must be. Hope you are ok.

Thanks euro- perhaps it s connected to the fact that it was ivf then. Who knows. Nothing I can do now except wait till I get back. This whole thing sucks though. It has been A massive battle to get pregnant and now this. I've got so many friends too who have conceived at the drop of a hat and just breezed through pregnancy, and here am I, having miscarriages, doing ivf and bleeding! Sorry to rant.

chattycat rant away, having had a mmc and then spent ages to conceive it really does fell like the world is against you at times doesn't it?

I hope you manage to at least try to enjoy some of the last days of your holiday and wish you all the best at your scan next week

I bled on and off for the first 11 weeks (also IVF pregnancy). It scared me to death, but all was fine. x

Another one here who had a bleed in the first trimester after IVF (and before that, a mmc). I had a very sudden red bleed, no cramping, at about 6.5 weeks and then had brown bleeding on and off for the next 4 weeks or so. I'm now 23 weeks and everything is fine.

At the time of the first bleed, I was scanned by my clinic, and they could see a sub chorionic hematoma which they said in most cases will either bleed out or reabsorb - which it did, however it was still terrifying at the time. The advice given was to drink plenty of water, no sex, no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, so OP, if you can, rest, take it easy for the next few days and have plenty of fluids.

Thinking of you, it is so frightening when this happens, especially after having been through IVF to get to this point in the first place. Let us know how you get on when you are back home and have had a scan.

I had a bleed at 12 weeks. Seemed like an awful lot of blood to lose. This was on a Saturday evening and I had my first scan on the Monday. The sonographer seemed pretty unconcerned to be honest and I never found out why. I'm sitting here with a healthy one year old so it all turned out ok.

Also it wasn't an IVF pregnancy but we had been trying for 2 years.

Thanks for so many responses. I appreciate it I really do. Hatteras- yes I'll do just that. Not had any more bleeding (yet at least) since this morning so at least that's something. Glad to hear all your stories turned out well.

Don't panic. I've had a miscarriage and trust me you'd know. It is a large gush that won't stop, even heavier than a period. Get yourself checked over ASAP but try not to panic a lot of women have spotting or light bleeding xx

Try to relax (and I know that's easier said than done) but realistically even if you were in the uk there isn't that much thy could do other than scan and then send you away to see how things progress.
It must feel like it is more out of control as you are away, but put your feet up and think of all the positive stories above.
