Have any of you ladies had a scan and been told you were having a certain gender and then found out (by another scan or at birth) that you were actually having the opposite gender? At which point did you find out the truth?!!! x

It hasn't happened to me, but it does now and then to people. They're more likely to get it wrong if you're told girl, as it's possible the penis just wasn't visible, whereas if you see one, almost certainly a boy unless the sonographer has got very confused about the cord, which they shouldn't do.

Why are you asking, were you disappointed with a scan?

At my 20 week scan we got a not very convincing 'probable girl' and as we wanted to get a firmer idea for a number of reasons we then had a private scan that was a lot clearer. Worth doing if it's important to you.

No, not disappointed at all! We're having a boy! We have his name and I've started buying blue, but since the scan (private 17 week scan) somebody showed me a picture of their 'boy' at 17 weeks with the willy and then showed me their 20 week pic where there is no willy and shows a little girl! Her bits were swollen! Now I'm a tiny bit worried as my baby has his identity and although I know it's unlikely, I wouldn't really want them to say that it's a girl now! Although of course, no matter what it is, I don't care as long as the baby is healthy :)

I am 30 weeks and have 4 scans now (2 NHS & 2 private) My first and last time of being pregnant so milking it big time!

The 17 week gender scan we were shown boy bits, the 20 week scan he was still a boy and we had a 27 week 4d scan and my DP was still completely panicked that the scanner was going to say he had turned into a she, he hadn't!

So I am fully expecting a son come August otherwise I will be having a daughter that wears a lot of blue

I know some one who was told girl at 2 scans and had a boy.

It's easier to make a mistake at 17 weeks than at 20 weeks. What stage was your scan done?

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 12/06/2014 17:14

Not me but a family member was told girl at 20 week scan, then had a scan later on for some reason and they found some boy parts that time! Grin I've never known anyone 'in real life' to be told boy and ended up with a girl though I'm sure it happens

RAFWife12 · 12/06/2014 17:17

My friend was told "definitely girl". Was definitely boy when he arrived!

I was told ds was a girl at my 20 week scan then about 6/7weeks later at another scan told it was boy when she referred to baby as him
