Maternity choice North London - Barnet v North Middlesex

Hi ladies, am new in Mumsnet - sorry if I'm not doing this posting lark correctly! I live near Enfield, north London and 8 weeks pregnant (hurray!) My GP has asked me to choose between Barnet and North Middlesex which are the only two she said she felt comfortable recommending.

I'm a first time Mum, so rather nervous about the whole thing. My priority is having a safe birth and a healthy baby. I'd like pain relief of some description (I think) but hopefully not an epidural if possible. That said who knows what could happen! Still early days but my pregnancy is progressing normally and the GP said I have no complicating factors.

Do any of you have any views either way on which might be best? I have to give her an answer by Friday so don't have time to visit either unit just yet, however she said I could change my mind if I wanted and could plan visits in the future. I'd like to avoid having to chop and change if I could, however I'm really clueless as have no family or friends in the area with kids. I have looked on both units' websites but neither are particularly illuminating.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am also completely new to mumsnet!

Hope you don't mind me joining this post - I am currently only 6w (DC1) but would also really interested to hear of people's experiences with Barnet or Watford General which are the two options in my area. I have no idea when I will need to make this decision given that I haven't even had my GP appointment yet (another thing for me to get stressed over!!) but I guess we will have to give it some thought at some point.

Thanks!
