How long for midwife?

I had a Drs appt last Thursday and the Dr sends referral to the midwife to arrange booking appointment, how long would I expect to wait to hear from the midwife?

I saw my doctor at 5 weeks, got a letter for my midwife appointment about a week and a half later for 9 weeks then at that appointment I was given a number to ring to book my scan

It mostly depends how far along you are.

I think it depends where you are. I saw GP around 5 weeks, but MW booking in was not until 12 weeks (it was actually the day after my scan!)

In my area we don't see the MW until we are about 9/10 weeks

squizita · 11/06/2014 11:52

My first 'normal' MW appointment was 8 weeks, I had check ups before that at a clinic to do with specific medical things, but 8-10 seems the norm in my area.

9 weeks - although it was a bit of a push as I only found out I was expecting at 7. I went to the Docs only to be told I could self-refer to the midwifery team, which I did. I then got a phone call a week and a half later asking if I could go see them 3 days later!

When I saw the Dr he said just make an appointment at desk for the midwife and when I went to reception the receptionist said oh no the Dr refers you Confused not entirely sure I'm convinced that the Dr will do it.
I'll give it until Monday then give them a ring

I would just ring them today and ask them to check an appointment has been made, then you will know and maybe have a telephone appt with a Dr if they have not done the referral to MW yet.
Seems everywhere is different, I just called my surgery and the made an appt with MW for when I was about 8 weeks. Did not need to see a doctor.

I saw GP at 8 weeks and mw at about 11.

Scoobsmam13 · 11/06/2014 18:19

My m/w seems to have forgotten about me Sad.
I keep chasing and am assured I am on the list to be contacted. Saw Dr at 8 weeks, and now 10.5 weeks and no phone call or scan date. So So Sooooooo desperate to have a scan date!!!!!
Think it depends on your area.

I rang this morning, apparently I should get an appointment for around 10 weeks

I saw Gp for Uti at 4 weeks. She gave me the number for the midwives. They gave me the number for the children's centre and I booked my own. That was initially at 6 weeks. They then did some of the paperwork and took bloods. She also booked the 12 week scan for me there and then. I was given my notes to fill in the bits about my history and family history. The midwife then came to my house at 10 weeks to do a proper booking appointment. I have seen her at 16 weeks and will see her at 25 next. I think the national guideline is that your booking appointment should have been done by 10 weeks by not everywhere manages it.

Scoobsmam13 · 13/06/2014 07:22

I got my first MW appointment, mid july, I will be nearly 16 weeks by then!! (I am assured I will have a scan at 12 weeks tho despite having not seen a MW) I guess there is something in the water down here?? Smile
