Box dyes safe?

Hi, are box dyes safe in pregnancy? I'm 36 weeks and have bought a L'oreal box dye as I can't afford the hairdressers.

I've been using home hair dye. I didn't use it in first tri. I tried finding info online and couldn't find much to be honest. Most of the guidance saying to avoid is based on ammonia - so find an ammonia free/low one. There isn't anything concrete though.

Reliable advice (ie midwives and drs and NHS) say all box dye is safe to use in the UK. Nowadays the chemicals in it are all safe (used to be a problem with the chemicals in some dark dyes in the 80s or so- no longer the case). Nothing that would harm you if used domestically (ie one box a month or less) in a well ventilated room. Many advise not to do so in the 1st trimester as the mum (not the baby) may have an allergic skin reaction then!

nhs says its ok. Hair can react unpredictably during pregnancy so be aware that colour may not take as well as usual

Thanks all. I have the dye on now but I'm a bit worried as it's VERy strong and requires to be left on for 45 minutes. I've already breathed in loads, am a bit concerned. Should I wash it off?
