Just had a text from midwife. Am almost 10 weeks and have a uti. Need to get antibiotics but could this harm the baby? She seemed to think it would be fine but I'm scared! Also the only medicine I can take I am
Allergic to! Can anyone help?

I took antibiotics for a chest infection whilst pregnant with DS. If you are allergic to the antibiotics then they will have to get the pharmacist or doctor to advise on an alternative.

I can't help, but watching with interest as I have a UTI requiring antibiotics and I'm concerned about taking them even though I've been told it's fine. Wonder if anyone has any natural remedies!

Take the antibiotics, an untreated infection is far worse. There are some that are ok to take whilst pregnant. It always says not suitable for pregnant women because its not legal to test them on us.

Hi uti's in pregnancy are so so common I have honestly lost count of how many I've had throughout my three pregnancies. It's totally safe to take the antibiotics I promise and it's much better not to have the infection.
I'm allergic to septrin which is used in antibiotics to treat uti's but they just give me a different one so I'm sure they can give you am antibiotic you're not allergic to.
Honestly they are nothing to worry about they are just one of those crap pregnancy things that no one tells you about! :)

I had a UTI in early pregnancy. I had antibiotics prescribed by the out of hours doctor. They told me the antibiotics they prescribed were fine to take whilst pregnant but they just told me to take them til the pain went rather than a whole course. They said that the UTI was more dangerous to the baby than the antibiotics.

Pregnantagain7 · 03/06/2014 18:22

Oh and I second what rock star said you must take the antibiotics an untreated uti is much worse!

Pregnantagain7 · 03/06/2014 18:25

Antibiotics will not cause a mc I promise. Uti's are so so common think how many women take antibiotics during pregnancy for this and other reasons it really will be fine :)

Donkle · 03/06/2014 18:33

If you've been prescribed them it's because it's MORE dangerous for you not to take them due to the correlation between pre term labour, miscarriages, kidney infections and UTIS.

I don't know one women who's been pregnant and not taken antibiotics in the west. PLEASE trust your qualified practitioners and not your own fears or google.

I've been on and off them for weeks. Please use them above all natural remedies which when UTIS are concerned are based on prevention and not cure.

A UTI can turn incredibly nasty over night if not left treated, if it gets worse antibiotics won't do the job alone and you will then be at risk.

I am 16 weeks and I have had amoxicillin, 2 lots of nitrofurantoin and a round of cephalexin. All for UTI. Saw bean at 11 and 12 weeks and wriggly and fine. Better to take them. if it goes to your kidneys you'll be really ill and end up on much stronger drugs. Hope you feel better soon. X
