Do I need an isofix base?

Didnt have one last time round (very old car so incompatable) and tbh never thought on it.

Now im pg again and wondering if its worth the circa £100 for the base. DD is in a five point harness and Im thinking its probably going to be easier to only have to worry about faffing with one child rather than both.

Is it worth it?

I certainly found mine to be extremely useful, especially as I had a tiny fiat 500!

However the base does take up a back seat when the baby's not there if you wanted other passengers to travel. I'd certainly use it again, it does make life that little bit easier!

I'd say it's only worthwhile if your car only has three doors. If it has five doors, it's not really a hassle to use the seat belt and is so much easier if you want to use the car seat in other cars.

Am I right in thinking (from the horrible videos that run constantly at the local ante-natal clinic) that they beep to tell you if the seat etc are correctly fitted?

Sounds like a good idea. Until it wakes up baby?

I love our isofix base for DS3 (never had it for the other 2) - its brilliant. you can pick them up second hand for a reasonable price.

minipie · 03/06/2014 17:11

Our base (maxi cosi) didn't beep but it had red bits that turned green when you got it right. no noise.

I'd say it's handy if you're going to be taking the seat in and out of the car a lot - easier to just click and go rather than faffing with the belt.

however having said that, I never quite got the hang of being able to click the seat out of the base - always had to get dh to do it! - so check before you buy that you can do it.

Yes! Worth the money. I didn't have one first time round but like you decided that when getting two children in the car it makes life easier!! And it did Grin

ShineSmile · 03/06/2014 17:22

Yes, worth it, but get a second hand one

hubbahubster · 03/06/2014 17:24

Didn't have one last time, so far with DC2 it's sooooo much easier, wish I'd had it last time! Buy secondhand though, got ours for £20 from eBay.

SweepTheHalls · 03/06/2014 17:25

I think they are brill. Really quick and no worries about did you do it right?

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/06/2014 17:26

Yes is say so. I liked that I could just click the car seat in and out and I knew that DS was properly secure.

We got the family fix one for the next car seat up too.

QueenOfThorns · 03/06/2014 17:28

They are very very easy to use. We bought ours on Ebay as well. It's a Silver Cross one and also doesn't beep!

martha15 · 04/06/2014 20:32

its easy to use and safer than securing a baby seat with a seatbelt so yes.

ImBrian · 04/06/2014 20:38

I loved mine, really handy when doing the school run and stopped me stressing out about it being in properly.

Only1scoop · 04/06/2014 20:39

Loved ours....just clicked in lights flashed job done Smile

MetalLaLa · 04/06/2014 20:45

We had one for DD that was both belted and isofix as my car is belt only but DH's has isofix, we found it extremely handy and made things a lot easier to just pop the seat on and go. Handy in bad weather, or if you have a three door car like mine. We paid about £50 for ours off Amazon as I had a voucher code, but we recently sold it on ebay for about £25. Was worth getting one for the nine months of constant use we got out of it Smile ours was a Maxi Cosi easyfix.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 04/06/2014 21:16

Do you mean you had no base last time, or had the family fix seatbelt base?

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 04/06/2014 21:17

Oh the name might have been different...

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 04/06/2014 21:22

We have the family fix base. Dd (2.5) is still using it and I'm not going to bother getting another for the new dc. I found it just as easy to strap the baby seat in as using the base.

But agree it's probably worth it if you have a 3 door car.
