Fist size clot!

I'm 11 weeks 3 days and I just woke up covered in blood! Went to the bathroom and passed a fist-sized clot.
I've had bleeding/spotting(some red, some brown) all the way through this(and my two other) pregnancy and had 4 scans so far and baby has always been fine. But after what has just happened , I'm freaking out!
I don't have any pain and the bleeding has subsided now. Oh and I've had 2 episodes of heavy bleeding(not this much) with clots but they were smaller.
Help

You must tell your gp ASAP. Might be nothing if there's no pain. My sister had bleeding (only bleeding with clots and no pain) in her 13th week and was sent in for a scan instantly. Turned out the baby was fine however the placenta was low-lying. She was advised bed rest over the next couple of months. However do go to the doctor ASAP. And try not to worry...all will be well. Sending prayers your way.

doctors. now! keeping everything crossed for you x

I'm guessing by now you've called the doc, but my advice is to head straight to your local early pregnancy unit at the hospital, they will need to scan you again there.
I really hope things have eased off and all is well. X

Thanks so much for replying. I'm in gp waiting room now. I found baby's heartbeat at home this morning :) but was advised to see the doc anyway. I think I'm just rubbish at this baby-carrying lark! My eldest son, now 10, was born at 29 weeks, poss due to early bleeding. Praying history doesn't repeat itself!
Will let you know how I get on at docs x

Well, checked blood pressure, that was ok. Felt my tummy, no discomfort, that was ok. Then she got the Doppler out... I told her I'd found the heartbeat this morning and showed her exactly wher I've found it on several occasions but she insisted that was too high so was looking around really low down! Lo and behold, she didn't find it! Then the battery ran out... Haha.
My booking scan is on Monday so just going to wait for that seeing as the bleeding had pretty much stopped now.
Fun and games, hey!!x

Firstly - incredibly sad to hear about your experience, keeping fingers crossed for your well being.
Secondly- please do not EVER rely on home dopplers. You're neither qualified, nor experienced to use them. Would say that to anyone who relies on Dopplers - at home in unprofessional hands they are just toys. Dangerous toys.
Thirdly - did you collect the clot? It might be worth examining.

Observer78 · 03/06/2014 13:42

PS you should've been referred to EPU now, not made to wait till dating scan.

Meeeep · 03/06/2014 13:58

I agree with observer, please don't rely on a doppler. It is very easy to pick up your own heartbeat and mistake it for your babies.

Phone your midwife and try and get an appointment at your local hospital.

Hope everything is ok.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/06/2014 14:02

At 11 weeks wouldn't it be unusual to find the Hb? The mw I've seen didn't even attempt to check until 16 weeks.

I would want to be seen much sooner. Hope you're ok OP.

splendide · 03/06/2014 14:30

Do you really mean fist sized? I think I'd go to a&e.

HavannaSlife · 03/06/2014 14:34

I had a fist sized clot with ds2 at 18 weeks, I had bleeding on and off for months.

My cervix was closed so it seems the clot was due to blood clotting in the vagina during the night then coming out when I got up

splendide · 03/06/2014 14:36

How frightening. I hope everything was ok.

I would second contacting the EPAU. They were really good with me when I had my bleeds. Also not trying to upset you but it is really difficult at 11 weeks to distinguish your heartbeat from your babies using a doppler even for a lot of professionals, so I wouldn't rely on your home doppler for reassurance. x

Loveallmyboys · 03/06/2014 18:03

Thanks all. There weren't any appointments available at epu. I'm with you all in the fact doppler a at home are just a toy. But I can most definitely tell the difference between mine and the baby's heartbeat. Baby is much much faster. But I hear you :) because this bleeding has happened twice before and I've had scans after both that have been fine, I'm not too worried, esp since not in pain.
Yes I did keep the clot/s and examined them thoroughly and there was nothing that looked too sinister. I even rinsed it all! Yuck! So, unless I get more bleeding or pain, I'll hopefully be ok to just go on Monday x
